Michael Block’s summer has taken another turn. The PGA Professional and frequent competitor in the PGA Championship was in the headlines Sunday, and now it appears as there’s some clarity as to why.
Earlier in the day, the popular Monday Q Twitter page run by Ryan French posted about how Block, in the field on a sponsor exemption, walked off the golf course at a Legends Tour event and was later DQ’d.
He later came back with a clarification after Block posted his version of events.
Evin Priest of Golf Digest got Block on the phone and wrote a report with more details. Turns out, Block admitted being late to his tee time by “only a couple of seconds.” But late is late (ask Garrick Higgo) and Block got a two-shot penalty. He then shot 43 on the front and after making bogey on the 12th hole, he withdrew. Priest’s report quotes Block as saying he told his playing partners he was done because he was WD-ing with an injury. He then got a ride in a golf cart back to the clubhouse. Tournament officials later deemed him to be disqualified.
Block was adamant that other things being reported were not true.

“To hear these accusations that I just walked off the course and that I was upset about the course conditions is absurd,” he told Golf Digest.
