Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas looks ready to once again make some noise at TPC Southwind. The 33-year-old won by three shots at this Memphis-based track in 2020. Thomas also finished T-12 in 2019 and T-13 in 2022. The veteran has never finished worse than T-30 in six starts at TPC Southwind and he has six rounds of 66 or lower at the par 70.
Thomas ranks fifth in this field in strokes gained per round at TPC Southwind and he ranks sixth in this field in strokes gained per round at courses in the Southeast. The Alabama product loves competing in this region and his game is trending up just in time for his return to TPC Southwind.
Thomas has finished inside the top-25 in eight of his past 10 starts. He finished T-5 at the PGA Championship in May, T-17 at the U.S. Open in June and most recently, T-14 at the Wyndham Championship last week.
Outside of an even par 70 in the second round, Thomas shot a 4-under 66 in every round at Sedgefield CC. He has shot under par in 12 of his past 16 rounds and Thomas leads the PGA TOUR in SG ARG this season, which sets him up well for TPC Southwind.
With this course presenting some of the smallest greens on the PGA TOUR, players are going to miss these putting surfaces often and being efficient around the green is crucial. Of the last six winners here, three have finished the week top-six in SG ARG, including Thomas in 2020, when he finished third in the metric during his victory at TPC Southwind.
Sitting 39th in the FedEx Cup standings, Thomas has to start making moves if he wants to make it the TOUR Championship in two weeks, as only the top-30 qualify for the playoff finale. This week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship features 69 players and no cut, and Thomas contending for his second win at TPC Southwind is a possibility. When we compare this field’s histories at no-cut events, Thomas ranks fifth in strokes gained per round.
On DraftKings Sportsbook, Thomas carries the 13th-best odds to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship at +3400.
