Many times, golfers need to rush through the last few holes of a round to finish before the sun goes down.

However, the Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce is putting on an event that takes the sport in the opposite direction.

The 5th annual MACC Glow Golf Tournament will be Sept. 24 at Black Brook Golf Course in Mentor. Registration and a Happy Hour/Dinner are at 5:30 p.m. followed by golf at dusk with glow-in-the-dark balls and lit fairways.

A foursome costs $350 and includes 9 holes of glow golf — walking only — with glow balls provided, dinner, drinks and late-night bites.

“We are in year five, we wanted to create an event which was unique and no one in the area was currently doing,” MACC President Christine Weber said. “We light up the golf poles, putting cups and fairways. Only need to bring a couple of clubs. It’s a great way to have outdoor fun in the fall.”

Weber added teams are very creative in their dress and the players have made it into a contest with glowing outfits and different themes.

The sponsors on the course are lit up as well as signage with spot lights.

Team prizes are awarded as well as a “Best in Glow” award.

Weber said some of the comments she has gotten from players in past years include:

• “It was fun and creative and different. The glow balls were very cool.”

• “Golf at dusk with glow-in-the-dark balls, lit fairways and nonstop fun.”

• “Nobody else is having an event like this.”

• “Walking the course at night with glow balls flying through the air was so fun.”

Sponsorship opportunities are available.
