Whaley is on a run to the finals this year, which featured wins against the fifth seed that required extra holes. He then defeated four more amateur golfers, all seeded higher than him, to make the finals.
Whaley opened the tournament with a win over fifth-seeded Jackson Ormond in 22 holes. Then he took down 37th-seeded Bowen Mauss in 17 holes, 53rd-seeded Christian Cacaliere in 15 holes, 29th-seeded Adam Bresnu in 14 holes, and eighth-seeded Carter Loflin in 18 holes.
