The top 50 players on the PGA TOUR are teeing it up this week in St. Louis in the middle of the three events in the FedExCup Playoffs. The top 30 will advance to the TOUR Championship next week for the final event of the Playoffs after this week’s no-cut event. Scottie Scheffler ($14,400)

Scheffler tamed TPC Southwind last week, breaking through with a 61 on Friday and cruising to a comfortable, eight-stroke victory. It was only Scottie’s second win of the season, and his first since January’s triumph at The American Express. It was his 21st career PGA TOUR win, making him the third-youngest player to rack up that many wins behind only Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.

He’s not a sneaky, contrarian play this week and is heavily favored since he was so much better than the field last week. Still, for cash games, he’s key since he brings so much win equity and has such a good chance at being on most of the rosters in the contest.

In last week’s victory, he led the field in Strokes Gained: Putting, in addition to GIR% and total birdies, also ranking second in Strokes Gained: Approach. Over the last six months, he leads the field in Strokes Gained: Approach, Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and Total Strokes Gained. If his putter gets going too, he could be ready for an unstoppable run to finish the season.

Last year, he won the BMW Championship (although it was on a different course), and he also finished T2 in 2023 and T3 in 2022. In his career, he has five top-25 finishes in six appearances at the event, although this will be his first tournament at this week’s course.

His well-rounded game is so perfectly suited to almost any layout that he’s an obvious but great place to start your fantasy golf cash game picks this week.

Patrick Cantlay ($8,800)

Cantlay is the kind of consistent veteran player in good form who makes a ton of sense for fantasy golf cash game picks. Plus, he comes with good form to Bellerive, where he placed T27 at the 2018 PGA Championship in the last tournament at this venue.

He hasn’t won for a while on the PGA TOUR, but he added a T12 last week in Memphis to get to 10 top-25 finishes in his 17 events, including four top-10 finishes. He finished T8 at the Rocket Classic early in August for one of his top finishes of the year.

The 34-year-old starts the week at No. 43 in the FedExCup Standings and will need a strong finish this week to get back to the TOUR Championship, where he finished T2 last year behind Tommy Fleetwood.

Over the last six months, he ranks ninth in the field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and 13th in Strokes Gained: Approach. He has won the BMW Championship twice in his career (not on this course), and has seven top-25 finishes in nine appearances. Like Scheffler, he has a well-rounded skill set that travels well to a variety of venues, and his consistently solid play makes him an awesome midrange play to anchor a balanced build or work alongside Scottie as a secondary star in this week’s cash game picks.

Alex Noren ($6,900)

Another veteran player with plenty of experience and strong recent form is Sweden’s Alex Noren, who comes with a bargain salary under $7,000. Noren has struggled with Strokes Gained: Approach this season, but he has been very strong putting and with accuracy off the tee. He has turned his iron play around in the last month while staying hot on the greens.

The 44-year-old has some nice momentum after a T18 at The Open Championship, a T7 at the Wyndham Championship and a T3 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week. He jumped to No. 36 in the FedExCup Standings after that high finish and can press into the top 30 with another big week to get back to the TOUR Championship. Noren hasn’t made it this far in the postseason since 2024, when he finished T9 at the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club.

Noren missed the cut at the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive but will look for a much better result this week. With no cut to worry about, a seasoned veteran like Noren should be able to keep grinding and post good value even if he starts slow since he’ll have four rounds guaranteed, barring withdrawal or disqualification.

Throughout his career, Noren is a 12-time DP World Tour champion, including two wins less than a year ago at the Betfred British Masters and the BMW PGA Championship. That win at the BMW PGA Championship was at Wentworth in England, where the DP World Tour hosts an event that shares a very similar name with this week’s tournament. Maybe Noren is just a BMW guy! Either way, he’s got enough momentum to be a good value play in cash game picks this week based on his trending form and versatile style of play.
