Matt Fitzpatrick is on the shortlist of players in contention for the 2026 PGA Tour Player of the Season award.
Fitzpatrick has won three events this season: the Valspar Championship, the RBC Heritage and the Zurich Classic with his brother Alex.
Chris Gotterup has also won three events, while Wyndham Clark, Cameron Young and Scottie Scheffler have each won twice.
What separates Scheffler from his rivals is that he has consistently contended at the biggest events, even when he has not won.
Fitzpatrick has discussed whether the world number one deserves to be named the PGA Tour Player of the Season.

Fitzpatrick was asked whether he cares about winning the Player of the Year award, given he is in the running with two events remaining.
The Englishman responded: “Yeah, definitely. Yeah, absolutely. Obviously it would be amazing to be able to achieve that.
“I think a certain someone (Scottie Scheffler) has sewn it up last week, if I’m honest (laughing).
“So, yeah, I think it will be obviously a great opportunity to play well this week and next week to try and put my name back in the hat, but yeah, definitely a lot of weight on that for sure.”
MORE SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER STORIES
Fitzpatrick then explained that Scheffler would likely win the award if the PGA Tour season had already ended.
How many times do you think Scottie Scheffler will win in 2027?
He has now won 21 times on the PGA Tour!
Scheffler is currently leading the FedExCup standings with 4,873 points, ahead of Fitzpatrick (3,426 points) in second place.
“My guess would be most guys will say Scottie. He’s leading the FedExCup by a lot of points,” Fitzpatrick continued.
“I’ve just made a point that the guy who’s played the best the whole season deserves to be the best player. And right now that is him. That is the truth, so I can’t deny that.
“I will say that I do believe, I know Paul McGinley made a point the other week, it’s like the PGA Tour Player of the Year, not necessarily the world Player of the Year.

“I know Rory’s probably missed out on that a couple times. So obviously there is a little bit of that in there as well.
“But yeah, like I say, the guy who is leading the FedExCup right now is deserving of that as those things stand, I would say.”
Fitzpatrick can still win the Player of the Year award, but he will probably need a victory in one of the last two events to overtake Scheffler.
