When I was on my high school golf team, the classic sport—for all its associations with country clubs, professional networking, and, most importantly, leisure—was not cool (at all). The sartorial choices for practice and tournaments only made it worse. That said, like tennis, it’s a sport you can play well into the later years of life, and for that, I’m forever grateful. Especially now, when golf seems to be cooler than ever.
It’s been a while since I’ve embraced my “drive for show, putt for dough” mentality, but I’ve been itching to play a round or two—and I have a feeling that the sport’s resurgence among the most stylish people (or, if anything, the aesthetic of it) is in large part the reason. Brands like Malbon, Stuart, and Radmor have been leading the charge in creating women’s golf attire that not only meets course dress codes but also actually looks good—which makes spending an extra hour or two at the 19th hole sound more enticing than ever.
As someone who’s keen on creating unexpected ideas for sporty moments (ahem, like watching this year’s FIFA World Cup), I’ve once again taken it upon myself to give you undeniably sharp ensembles that will have you right on par with everything else, even if it’s your first time on the fairway.
Tee-Off
Simply put, there’s nothing quite like a satisfying tee-off from the box. From the sound of the driver pinging when it hits the ball to watching it fly off into the distance, you know you’re starting off on the right foot. The only thing that makes it better? Wearing an outfit you know you look good in, too. This khaki set from the latest Malbon x Gap collaboration is undeniably cool—and it’s the perfect way to look put-together for any match in a matter of minutes. And, of course, a fresh set of clubs (I’m currently loving the TaylorMade Kalea Golf collection) and maybe a designer accessory or two, if you’re feeling up for it.

Practice makes perfect, and even when you’re casually practicing that swing—or, you know, just hanging out—at the range, it’s worth showcasing your sartorial prowess. Let this be a comfortable option with a classic polo shirt and easy trousers. When the temperatures go down, a timeless cashmere rugby will be just what you need to top off the look.

There’s a realm of the golf world that dresses like they’re going to go fly fishing, and I, for one, am here for it. The last time I played a round, I found myself searching my golf skirt for a pocket to put my tee (it was under the skirt and part of the built-in shorts). That might be standard, but why do that when you have a vest with virtually bottomless pockets?! Anyway, if you’re wearing this look as you drive across the fairway for your next shot, everyone on the course will see you’re throwing ’fits.

Listen, you simply cannot go wrong with a little bit of prep in your step—this is prime territory for embracing the aesthetic, so why not dress the part? I love the idea of wearing a chic Polo Bear sweater with tailored shorts. You can mix things up a bit with a pair of scuba shoe-inspired flats and top it off with a baseball cap and a designer bag (the Gucci Giglio is currently living rent-free in my head).

I simply do not have it in me to drink anything but water, coconut water, or Gatorade on a course, but I love the art of the 19th hole—also known as the round of drinks at the bar or clubhouse at the end of a round. Kick off those cleats (or whatever shoes you decide to wear) for a pair of classic Birkenstock clogs and take a load off after a round. This is your time to relax, and you might as well do it in style.
