As the saying goes, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease,” and in the case of Scotty Cameron fans, they have been rather forward in their desire to see the very popular on-tour Phantom 9.5R come to retail. Especially with players like Cameron Young using the putter with great success in 2025 and into 2026 with wins at The Players and Cadillac Championship.
Not to mention Jackson Koivun, earning his first PGA Tour victory just weeks after switching into one himself.
Well, the day has finally arrived—at least for the announcement—that the Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5R is coming to retail, and those who want it can put their money where their demand is.
Phantom Line Refresher
The Scotty Cameron Phantom mallet line is all about forgiveness and alignment—and with angular geometric shapes and longer flange lines, the Phantom putters provide more options to help golfers get properly aligned with the target, with the 9.5R being the latest addition.

Studio Style Tech Refresher
Chain-Link face milling – This Chain-Link face milling pattern is the result of extensive testing with tour players to dial in sound and feel. The reason being, there is a direct link between what a player experiences at impact and the distance the ball travels—a relationship that is crucial for distance control. It also helps with the initial ball roll.
Another major element of the insert is, that unlike the previously released Studio Style, the insert in the new line is made from a soft carbon steel—the same type of steel used in Scotty Cameron’s early handmade and art of putting models from the late 90s. It’s this steel, plus the Chain-Link pattern that comes together to make the new putters some of the softest feeling Scotties ever produced.
The 9.5R Story
After the tour launch of the Phantom 9R which included double bend and plumbers neck options, it wasn’t long before players were looking the head shape with more toe hang, this is where the 9.5R came in. The first player to put it in play Cameron Young.
He’s always wanted to feel flow in the putter. We’ve started in face-balanced mallets for him and we’ve kind of worked our way down to a point where he’s felt comfortable enough to feel the toe flow the way he wants it and get the release of the putter that he wants.

After multiple wins, a lot of others took notice, including Justin Thomas (plus retail golfers), but it was Jackson Koivun who saw the quickest result.
Koivun used a 9R in college, but Scotty Cameron Rep Drew Page did extensive testing with him the week before the 3M to determine he would likely benefit from a putter with more toe hang. The 9.5R went into play and help lead Jackson to his first win.
Now come September, regular golfers can finally experience the same winning formula.
