Lincoln golf course faces up to $15K repair bill after riders allegedly tear up green
Course management says it has dealt with previous vandalism involving young e-bike riders; police are investigating the latest damage as a felony.
LINCOLN, Calif. —
A Lincoln golf course could face up to $15,000 in repairs after riders allegedly carved deep ruts into one of its greens, prompting a felony vandalism investigation.
Management at Lincoln Hills Golf Course said multiple e-bike and e-moto riders entered the 13th green Monday night and rode in circles across the Bermuda grass. Some of the ruts were as deep as 6 inches, while other damage appeared to show burnouts around the cup.
“It could be $10,000 to $15,000 if we decided to sod the entire green,” General Manager Chad Bennett said.

Bennett said the damage may have been caused in as little as two to three minutes. Crews have since filled the deepest ruts with sand and are working to determine whether the grass can recover without replacing the entire green.
Golfers said riders cutting through the course have become a recurring problem.
“Disgusted,” golfer Gary Russ said. “Just getting really tired of the kids around here riding their bikes everywhere, riding across the greens, ruining stuff.”
The Lincoln Police Department said officers responded to the golf course and took a report of significant damage caused by what appeared to be tire marks. Police are investigating the case as felony vandalism.

Bennett said the 13th hole’s proximity to a road makes it particularly vulnerable. The course has also contacted homeowners association security and requested additional patrols across its 36 holes.
