NEWLAND — Avery Lady Vikings Golf returned to the links last week for a pair of competitions, participating in a conference contest at Hendersonville Country Club on August 25, followed by a head-to-head matchup at East Rutherford on August 27.
In the conference matchup, the Lady Vikings won going away by firing a team score of 123 to easily win the match, outdistancing runner-up Polk County by 33 strokes. Owen placed third overall, followed by Mitchell, host Hendersonville and Mountain Heritage.
In individual stroke play, Lady Vikings teammates Sydney Kulhan and Karlie Calhoun were the two top placers, carding nine-hole rounds of 38 and 44, respectively. Molly Forbes placed fifth overall with a round of 44, followed by Erika Ralston in sixth place (45) and Kendall Kulhan tied for seventh (46).
Avery came up short in its head-to-head matchup with the Lady Cavaliers at Forest City Municipal Golf Course, falling by a narrow 121-116 final score. In individual scores, Sydney Kulhan was runner-up finisher, completing her nine-hole round at even par-36, which included a bogey on the second hole and a birdie on Hole No. 9.
Forbes placed fourth overall with a round of 42, with teammate Kendall Kulhan carding a round of 43, Ralston firing a 45 and Calhoun shooting a round of 48.
