Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite every week that he plays. This week, he bucked the odds by not even making the cut.
Scheffler was the active leader for consecutive cuts made with 78, but that streak ended at the Genesis Scottish Open. Scheffler shot 68 in Day 1 but a 2-over 72 on Day 2 and that had him at even par overall. The cut came in at 2 under so Scheffler will miss a weekend for the first time in 1,428 days.
There were five co-leaders after 18 holes, and somehow two of those golfers managed to miss the cut after having awful Fridays.
On a leaderboard full of surprises at the top – who had Jordan Smith leading or Nicolai Von Dellinghausen just two back? – there were just as many surprises among those who missed the cut.
Who missed the cut at the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open?
Patrick Cantlay, 1 under
Cantlay was one of those five first-round co-leaders after posting 65. But on Friday, five bogeys and just one birdie led to a 74 and 1-under finish, not enough to make the cut.
Ludvig Aberg, 1 under
Another heavy favorite each week is Aberg, but scores of 68-71 were one shot short of making the Scottish cut. Aberg has a third, five top 10s and 10 top 25s this season, but he also now has a third missed cut.
Scottie Scheffler, even par
The cut streak was only part of the story. Scheffler arrived in Scotland having finished inside the top 25 in each of his previous 35 starts. His last result outside the top 25 was at the 2024 BMW Championship (T33).
Brooks Koepka, even par
Playing on a sponsor exemption, Koepka was sitting pretty after 18 holes thanks to a 66. But he was eight shots worse on Friday, posting a 74 and finishing at level par and short of the weekend by two shots.
Bernd Wiesberger, 3 over
Wiesberger fired a first-round 65 and was one of the five co-leaders. On Friday, things went the absolute wrong way, as he signed for a 78, 13 shots worse than just a day before, and dropping him beyond contention but all the way the wrong side of the weekend.
Xander Schauffele, 3 over
Schauffele shot 69-74 and missed the cut by a whopping five shots.
Padraig Harrington, 3 over
Playing a fifth week in a row during a span of eight straight weeks of competition on both the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions, Harrington shot 74-70.
Bud Cauley, 9 over
Cauley won his first PGA Tour event in his 238th start a month ago at the RBC Canadian Open, but this week at the Scottish, things got sideways quickly and he never recovered. Cauley shot 73 on Thursday and 76 on Friday, leaving him 9 over and heading home early for just the third time this season and first since way back at the other Genesis-sponsored event, the Genesis Invitational at Riviera. Is there any chance Cauley drives a Genesis? He may rethink that if so.
