Local golfers share experiences after first round of RBC Heritage
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. —
The first round of the 2026 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links concluded Thursday, with Savannah native Brian Harman and other local golfers discussing their performances.
Harman, a fan favorite at the event, is seeking his first win at the tournament. He teed off in round one after a remarkable tie for 33rd at the Masters, where he overcame a 10-over-par deficit early in the second round by going 6-under over the last 14 holes to make the cut. On Thursday, Harman started slowly but finished even par.
Two other local players, former Georgia Southern Eagle Steven Fisk and Bluffton resident Brian Campbell, shared their thoughts on their first professional rounds at Harbour Town Golf Links.
“Keep the ball in front of me pretty good. One little screw up on a bad tee shot, but took advantage of a couple par fives early and then played some really solid golf on the back,” Fisk said. “Been struggling with kind of bouncing back a little bit and some, some bad holes and whatnot. So it was nice to have a day where I, you know, stayed pretty even keel. And made some, made some birdies coming in to kind of make up for it.”
“Yeah, a little scrappy, but putter felt good getting still, getting used to the green speeds,” Campbell said. “I say after Augusta playing these is a bit of a change. But these are pure. I mean, they did a great job with the course.”
