Scottie Scheffler insisted that Ted Scott is “a lot more than just a caddie” after helping him regain his composure en route to winning the 2026 Tour Championship.
On Sunday, Scheffler – who has a “childish” financial agreement with his own caddie – secured the second Tour Championship title of his decorated career by erasing a three-shot deficit against Viktor Hovland in the final round at East Lake Golf Club. The 30-year-old carded a 4-under-66 to finish at 16-under and seal a three-stroke victory, earning Scott an estimated $1 million payday.
Speaking to reporters on the heels of his triumphant afternoon, Scheffler heaped praise on Scott while acknowledging the immense impact he has on his game during tournaments. “I feel like Ted for me on the course is a lot more than just a caddie, someone giving me numbers,” the world No. 1 explained. The moment came as Scheffler immediately lost an enormous amount of money from his FedEx Cup win paycheck.
Scheffler continued: “He’s a tremendous asset as a friend and as a partner out there on the course.”
In particular, Scheffler pointed to a specific moment in the final round when Scott helped him regain his composure and focus on the task at hand.
On the seventh hole, Scheffler’s approach sailed slightly left of his intended line and landed on the far side of a bunker. Faced with an unfavorable lie and no realistic shot at the pin, he ultimately made bogey.
“It’s tough kind of choosing your spots,” Scheffler admitted. “That was a pin on 7 that was tucked pretty far on the back left, but I had a good number. I felt like I hit a pretty good shot.

“It was maybe a touch left of my line. The wind was supposed to be off the left, but it went straight down and maybe off the right.
“The bunker shot, if you’re on the flat, it’s not too bad of a spot. But goes into the other side where you have virtually no chance, I mean, it’s just pretty frustrating. I felt like some of that stuff was going against me.”
Rather than dwell on the mistake, Scheffler bounced back with a birdie on No. 8 — thanks in large part to a pearl of wisdom from Scott, who recalled a similar unfortunate break he encountered during the 2026 FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
On the third hole, Scheffler’s greenside bunker shot clipped a sprinkler head, causing it to take a bad bounce and ricochet into the water.
What looked to be a routine birdie chance swiftly turned into a battle to save par, as Scheffler did little to hide his disbelief while exchanging a shocked look with Scott.
Back at East Lake, Scott reminded Scheffler of the one-in-a-million moment, reinforcing that he could overcome whatever freak obstacles came his way.
“It was a frustrating moment, but I think sometimes that’s why it’s important for me to get out and be able to voice that to Ted in those moments,” Scheffler said. “And he’s able to sometimes calm me down, sometimes not.”
