Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant player in professional golf over the past four years.

Scheffler has 22 PGA Tour wins to his name since February 2022, including four major championships.

However, the 30-year-old has flattered to deceive in team competition over the past few years.

Brandt Snedeker must figure out how to get the best out of Scottie Scheffler at the Presidents Cup later this month.

And the same can be said for Jim Furyk at the Ryder Cup next year.

Scheffler took just point from four matches in 2023 at Marco Simone in Italy.

The two years later, he won just one point from five matches against the European team at Bethpage Black.

At the Presidents Cup in 2022, Scheffler managed just one half and three defeats in four matches, although he did rack up three wins out of four at the 2024 edition of the competition.

However, the current world number one excelled at the Ryder Cup back in 2021 at Whistling Straits.

History proves who Scottie Scheffler’s partner should be at the Presidents Cup

At Whistling Straits in 2021, Scheffler shone for the United States.

Brandt Snedeker will surely have learned one very important thing from what happened that week in Kohler, Wisconsin.

Scheffler’s record of 2.5 points from three matches at the Ryder Cup five years ago was seriously impressive, especially considering it was his maiden appearance in the competition.

What worked so well for Scheffler was having a partner who was seriously amped up throughout the week.

In this case, the Texan’s partner was Bryson DeChambeau, and the duo took 1.5 points from their two matches.

Scheffler being paired with calm and quiet characters throughout the years simply hasn’t worked. Russell Henley at Bethpage Black in 2025 and Sam Burns at the Presidents Cup in 2022 were perfect examples of this.

The 30-year-old is a much better golfer when he’s playing right on the edge. He admitted as much after winning the Tour Championship this year, when he suggested his fiery temper and fiercely competitive nature are what makes him so great.

So, who are the players who Snedeker should consider pairing with the world number one?

Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark, and Chris Gotterup could partner Scottie Scheffler

Justin Thomas and Wyndham Clark are the two obvious candidates to partner Scheffler at Medinah.

Thomas has been Team USA’s chief cheerleader both on and off the golf course during Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups in the past.

He wears his heart on his sleeve and brings serious intensity to every match he plays.

While Thomas hasn’t been anywhere near his best for 18 months now, his on-course persona would surely help bring out the best in Scheffler.

The same can be said of Wyndham Clark. The intensity and passion with which the two-time US Open champion plays the game is exactly what Scheffler needs in a partner to help bring out the best in him.

While Chris Gotterup isn’t quite as animated on the golf course as Thomas and Clark are, he certainly plays a heavy metal brand of golf, so to speak.

The 27-year-old is an extremely proud American, and there’s no doubt that he will get seriously amped up when representing his country at Medinah later this month.

I have absolutely no doubt that Scottie Scheffler’s professional match-play record would improve if Brandt Snedeker partners him up with one of those three players at the Presidents Cup.
