Inside the two-man standard powering Wamego boys golf

  • May 23, 2026

WAMEGO, Kan. (WIBW) – The easiest way to understand Wamego’s run of three straight state boys golf titles is to start at the top of the lineup.

Senior Regan Kueker and junior Breckin Miller occupy the first two spots, and the separation between them is usually minimal. In practice rounds and tournaments, they tend to post similar scores, often within a stroke or two of each other.

“Every day we’re out here, he’s challenging me,” Kueker said told 13 SPORTS. “And we make each other better.”

Kueker is in his final season before continuing his career at UT Martin. Miller, still a junior, has already been in the program’s state lineup since his freshman year, when he finished seventh after beginning the season on JV.

“My freshman year, I was on JV my first two tournaments,” Miller told 13 SPORTS. “…Eventually was on the squad permanently for state and got a seventh-place finish at my freshman year state. So, earned my keep.”

That early season still shapes how Kueker views him.

“He had so many doubters because of that,” Kueker said. “But he had to prove himself. He proved himself two tournaments in a row at JV and immediately bumped himself up to varsity.”

Since then, the two have consistently been Wamego’s lowest scorers, with their internal results often setting the tone for how the rest of the roster is measured.

“Not many other teams have a one and two bag that can go as low or as well as we can,” Miller said.

Head coach Scott Kitch points to Kueker’s role beyond scoring, particularly in how he interacts with younger players.

“Over the last couple years, he’s really taken on that role,” Kitch told 13 SPORTS. “Encouraging the guys to get out here and practice more and taking some of the younger guys under his wing.”

The program’s approach is straightforward: treat each round as preparation for the next high-pressure setting. That mindset is reinforced most clearly at the top of the lineup, where scores rarely drift far apart.

“Each time we go in, it’s just practice for a state tournament,” Miller said. “So each time is just getting us prepped for that day.”

Wamego enters another postseason in a familiar position—contending, again, for a title — their fourth straight, that is.

The 4A state tournament begins in Hesston on Tuesday.
