{"id":13350,"date":"2026-06-02T12:09:38","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T12:09:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/13350\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T12:09:38","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T12:09:38","slug":"golf-fans-react-to-aaron-rai-winning-2026-pga-championship-at-aronimink-golf-club-he-came-out-of-nowhere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/13350\/","title":{"rendered":"Golf fans react to Aaron Rai winning 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club: &#8220;He came out of nowhere&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYdL5bvE8oV\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">gallery erupted in cheers<\/a> Sunday as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/aaron-rai-pga-championship-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Aaron Rai<\/a> made his final walk up the 18th fairway at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/rory-mcilroy-2026-pga-championship\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2026 PGA Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think it&#8217;s absolutely crazy, he came out of nowhere from behind,&#8221; said Michael Friel, a spectator in the crowd. &#8220;Just really happy for him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old Englishman rose to the top of the golf world and hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy Sunday at Aronimink Golf Club to win the PGA Championship. He became the first English-born player in more than a century to win the title.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ap26137848994506.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"Aaron Rai \" height=\"413\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Aaron Rai, of England, holds the Wanamaker Trophy after winning the PGA Championship golf tournament at Aronimink Golf Club, Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>                Carolyn Kaster\/AP<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Aaron Rai just came in and swept one under the rug and won it, it&#8217;s crazy,&#8221; Jason Rodden said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So impressive, I mean, the fact that he&#8217;s wearing two gloves out there as one of those only players that wears two gloves, and he&#8217;s playing amazing and kind of coming out of nowhere, so impressive to see,&#8221; Jake Pendrak said.<\/p>\n<p>Fans lined the fairways and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/pga-championship-aronimink-golf-club-delaware-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">crowded the greens at Aronimink<\/a> to watch the fourth and final round of the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A great day for golf, atmosphere has been great, Philly is just a great sports town for anything,&#8221; Tyler Capra said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a golf guru, so I just can&#8217;t get enough of this place, the holes are just spectacular,&#8221; Andrew McNelly said.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA Championship saw a wide range of weather from scattered showers and chilly temperatures to hot, humid, and 90 degrees Sunday. Some fans took a break under the trees to seek a little shade, and McNelly poured water on his neck in order to cool off.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I mean, it feels good in certain spots, but it&#8217;s tough, tough to handle,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past week, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/pga-championship-aronimink-round-2-families\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">200,000 fans had a front row view to the best golfers in the world<\/a>.
