Recast as PXG, the company entered an industry dominated by recognizable, ubiquitous companies \u2014 Titleist, PING, TaylorMade, Mizuno, COBRA, Cleveland \u2014 that held most of the market share and defined how equipment was designed, priced and distributed.<\/p>\n
PXG, meanwhile, began as a boutique brand based in Scottsdale, Ariz.<\/p>\n
Instead of selling clubs through big-box retailers, PXG required customers to travel to them. The brand provided custom fittings \u2014 uncommon at the time \u2014 and a premium-priced adventure emphasizing personal attention over volume.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we released our first golf club, Gen1, we had two guys fly in from New Delhi to get fitted,\u201d Parsons recalled. \u201cThey bought three sets of clubs.
