Dannah Smith of Orchard Creek and Jane Fanning of eClub Capital Region captured the NYSGA Women\u2019s Amateur Four-Ball Championship on Tuesday at Leatherstocking, shooting 5-over 149 over two days for a two-shot victory over Lauren Cupp and Pennie Carlo of the Utica area. \u2026 Mary Jo Kelly of Wolferts Roost and Karen Feldman of Columbia were the top local finishers in the State Women\u2019s Senior Four-Ball, tying for fourth.<\/p>\n
Scott Berliner, a 13-time Northeastern New York PGA Player of the Year out of Lake Luzerne, has qualified for the U.S. Senior Open. An assistant pro at Glens Falls, Berliner, 51, fired a 4-under-par 66 last week in final qualifying at New Haven, Conn., to share medalist honors. He is the 11th area player to qualify since the Senior Open was established in 1980. Scotia native Ron Philo Jr. was in last year\u2019s field. This year\u2019s event is July 2-5 at Scioto in Columbus, Ohio. \u2026 Former New York State Junior champion Kellen Dean of McGregor led a group of 13 Capital Region players who advanced from a New York Open qualifier Monday at Eagle Crest. The others: C.J. Strong (Troy), Ryan Davis (Normanside), Francisco Cupp (Saratoga Polo), Mike Fretto (Edison), Kieran Cummins (Wolferts Roost), Eric Spoth (Edison), Charlie Blake (McGregor), Brayden Dock (Glens Falls), Tim Latchford (Saratoga Polo), A.J. Cavotta (Anders Mattson Golf), Thomas Strandemo (UAlbany assistant coach) and Nolan Crowley (Saratoga Polo). Because of an eight-way tie for eighth place, a total of 15 golfers qualified (two are from outside the area). The New York Open is July 14-16 at Bethpage Black.<\/p>\n
Brevin Bennett of Norwich, Tanner LaTorre of Nassau, Hayden Knapp of Gansevoort and Maria Glavin of Waterford advance out of the recent PGA Junior Championship qualifier at Waubeeka (Mass.). They are eligible for the 50th PGA Junior Championship, July 28-31, in Frisco, Texas. \u2026 Glavin, 15, earned the first alternate spot in last week\u2019s U.S. Girls\u2019 Junior qualifier at Sunningdale in Scarsdale.
