General frameworks have \u201cbeen pitched to players and the advisory council in recent weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/03\/pga-tour-council-briefed-on-two-track-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/06\/03\/pga-tour-council-briefed-on-two-track-schedule\/\">centered on a new two-tiered system<\/a>.\u201d The top circuit would \u201cfeature roughly 20-plus events (majors included), fields of around 120 players, and purses\u201d of $20M. The bottom 20-30 finishers at season\u2019s end would \u201cbe relegated to the second tier\u201d and the top performers there would \u201cearn promotion back up.\u201d However, pushback has \u201ccome from multiple directions &#8212; players, sponsors, and tournaments alike.\u201d Some players see the proposal as \u201clittle more than the existing PGA Tour\/Korn Ferry structure with a smaller event count.\u201d Tournament officials \u201clikely slotted into the second tier are asking why they\u2019d offer substantial prize money for what amounts to a feeder league,\u201d and media partners \u201cwant clarity on what they\u2019re actually paying for under their current deals.\u201d One of the points \u201cstill being discussed is playoff format.\u201d PGA Tour CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/28\/brian-rolapps-fingerprints-all-over-pga-tours-recent-big-moves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sportsbusinessjournal.com\/Articles\/2026\/01\/28\/brian-rolapps-fingerprints-all-over-pga-tours-recent-big-moves\/\">Brian Rolapp<\/a> said that \u201ceverything is still up for discussion.\u201d Rolapp said there is a meeting with the Player Advisory Council scheduled for June 9 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfdigest.com\/story\/pga-tour-28-season-changes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.golfdigest.com\/story\/pga-tour-28-season-changes\">GOLF DIGEST, 6\/3<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">IN THE WORKS: GLOBAL GOLF POST\u2019s Ron Green Jr. noted the idea of having approximately 24 events including the majors along with a new playoff structure for 120-130 players \u201chas been generally agreed upon.\u201d There is \u201cstill the matter of determining which tournaments will be $20 million Track 1 events\u201d and which \u201cwill be on the second, less-lucrative track.\u201d Negotiations are \u201ccontinuing between the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour about extending their strategic alliance,\u201d and Rolapp expects the tour to have new media rights deals \u201clong before the current deals expire at the end of 2030.\u201d Getting the general buy-in from players on such a substantial change \u201chas taken time\u201d and there are \u201cstill details to refine before anything becomes official.\u201d Rolapp said, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t mean everyone loves everything, but I think everyone sort of gets why we\u2019re doing this and the direction we\u2019re going. The AP\u2019s Doug Ferguson wrote \u201cstill under discussion are details that include which tournaments are going on Track 1 and Track 2, the courses they play and perhaps going to bigger markets the tour is not in, such as New York, Chicago, Boston, Denver and Philadelphia\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pga-tour-brian-rolapp-schedule-liv-golf-fcf808fcff6b33b6df7bb05461e501be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pga-tour-brian-rolapp-schedule-liv-golf-fcf808fcff6b33b6df7bb05461e501be\">AP, 6\/3<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-leagues-and-governing-bodies \">JUST A MAKEOVER? GOLFWEEK\u2019s Adam Schupak wrote there is a \u201csense that Track 2 will be nothing more than a re-branded version of the Korn Ferry Tour.\u201d However, Rolapp \u201cdismissed that notion.\u201d He said that the caliber of player \u201cwill be higher than what at present is on the Tour\u2019s developmental circuit.\u201d Rolapp: \u201cWe\u2019re leaning back into the meritocracy of the sport.
