WELL, GOLF’S LONGEST DAY IS GETTING UNDERWAY. TEN SITES ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE HOSTING 36 HOLE QUALIFIERS FOR A SHOT AT MAKING THE U.S. OPEN. ONE OF THE EVENTS IS HAPPENING AT DEL PASO COUNTRY CLUB IN KCRA 3’S. MIKE TESELLE IS ON THE COURSE NOW. TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE LOCAL HOPEFULS WHO ARE HOPING TO WIN THEIR WAY TO A MAJOR, WHICH IS PRETTY COOL. YEAH, THIS IS VERY COOL. YOU JUST MENTIONED THERE’S NO BASEBALL TO WATCH THIS WEEK IN PERSON, SO HERE’S SOMETHING YOU CAN DO TODAY AND A GREAT WAY TO SPEND YOUR MONDAY. WELL, YOU CAN SEE HERE SOME OF THE GOLFERS ON THE PRACTICE GREEN. AND THEN WE JUST HAD A GROUP TEE OFF RIGHT BEHIND THEM ON THE FIRST TEE. SO WE’RE A COUPLE MINUTES AWAY FROM THE NEXT ONES TEEING OFF. BUT TAKE A LOOK BECAUSE WE’VE BEEN OUT HERE ALL MORNING WATCHING THESE HOPEFULS TEE OFF. IF YOU’RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH WHAT THE LONGEST DAY IN GOLF IS LEADING UP TO THE U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS, IT’S THIS A ONE DAY, 36 HOLE QUALIFIER, A CHANCE TO EARN A SPOT IN THE FIELD FOR THE U.S. OPEN. MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. WE’RE TALKING NOT JUST THE BEST COLLEGIATE GOLFERS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY AND THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN ON THE PGA TOUR TRYING TO GET THEIR SHOT AT THE U.S. OPEN. WE’RE TALKING PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE WORLD, THE COUNTRIES OF CHINA, BRAZIL, INDIA, ENGLAND, ALL REPRESENTED HERE THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON AND POSSIBLY EVEN INTO THE EVENING FOR THIS COVETED CHANCE TO GET INTO THE U.S. MAJORS. AND AS BIG OF A DEAL AS THIS IS FOR THESE GOLFERS, FOR THE EL PASO COUNTRY CLUB, WHICH IS ONE OF THE SPOTS HOSTING A QUALIFYING EVENT TODAY. THIS IS BECOME EASIER DONE BEFORE. LISTEN, YOU KNOW, IT’S JUST EXCITING FOR US TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE USGA. YOU KNOW, WE’VE HAD FIVE USGA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE CLUB’S HISTORY. WE’RE IN OUR 110 YEAR ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR. AND IF IT’S NOT A MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP, YOU KNOW, THE NEXT LEVEL IS TO HOST A SECTIONAL QUALIFYING LIKE WE’RE HOSTING TODAY. AND IF YOU’RE EVEN REMOTELY THINKING ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO COME OUT HERE, I GOT TO TELL YOU FROM A FAN EXPERIENCE, THIS IS SO LAID BACK. IT’S NOT LIKE THE AMERICAN CENTURY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. BUT THEN AGAIN, YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE CROWDS, WITH ALL THOSE CELEBRITIES. THIS IS REALLY TRUE GOLF AT ITS CORE, AND YOU CAN COME OUT AND WATCH THESE HOPEFULS BECAUSE BY THE END OF THE DAY, THE TOUR PRO HERE, MIKE GREEN TOLD ME, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE WILL BE THREE GOLFERS FROM THIS EVENT WHO WILL EARN A SPOT IN THE U.S. OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS HAPPENING HERE LATER THIS MONTH. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? WHAT ELSE YOU GOT TO DO TODAY? IT IS A GORGEOUS SUNNY DAY AND MAN, IT’S BEEN FUN WATCHING SOME OF THESE GOLFERS OUT HERE BECAUSE YOU CAN TELL THESE ARE NOT THE ONES WHO ARE MAKING $10 MILLION A MONTH. THESE ARE THE ONES WHO ARE SACRIFICING AND GRINDING AND TRYING TO GET THERE.
