CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Truist Championship is scheduled to tee off at Quail Hollow Club on Thursday morning, but with rain forecasted in the area the opening round will start later than normal. <\/p>\n

The first round of the Truist Championship is now scheduled to tee off at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, from Quail Hollow. Gates are scheduled to open at 10:30 a.m. <\/p>\n

The second round will also tee off at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 8. <\/p>\n

The players will tee off in trios and from No. 1 and No. 10. <\/p>\n

Wet weather is forecast to move into the Charlotte area Wednesday night, and will likely continue into Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe wee hours of Thursday morning are going to be wet,\u201d WBTV meteorologist Paul Heggen said during a Wednesday broadcast<\/a>. \u201cLocally heavy downpours, frequent cloud to ground lightning, outside chance for a couple of strong wind gusts and small hail.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe kind of recharge again around midday, there\u2019s even more storms popping up during the afternoon,\u201d he went on. \u201cSo not completely drying up until [Thursday] evening.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first tee time Thursday is set for 7:45 a.m., with the last scheduled for 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

Play can begin or continue in rain — course conditions permitting — but not if there is lightning. If lightning is detected close enough to the area, play would immediately be suspended. The USGA has rules<\/a> that govern how play should be resumed.<\/p>\n

The good news for players and spectators at Quail Hollow on Thursday is that sunset is not until about 8:15 p.m. in Charlotte — so there will be lots of daylight to get in the first round. If any players are unable to finish their round Thursday, they would complete it Friday, then play their second round later in the day.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to Friday and Saturday, both days look sunny with highs in the 70s. Rain chances will them ramp back up late Sunday.<\/p>\n
