Maybe you\u2019re a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veranda.com\/preview\/a71309529\/golf-explainer\/\" target=\"_self\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.veranda.com\/preview\/a71309529\/golf-explainer\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"golfer\" data-node-id=\"0.3\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">golfer<\/a> but not a member of this club. Or perhaps you\u2019re not a golfer, but you\u2019ve been invited anyway and want to fit in. Regardless of one\u2019s love for the game, many private golf clubs can feel intimidating and out of reach.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"1\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Enter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intowngolfclub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.intowngolfclub.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Intown Golf Club\" data-node-id=\"1.1\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Intown Golf Club<\/a>, a members-only social club where golfers can play a round or take a lesson from a pro on simulators, and non-golfers can gather for meetings, meals, and other community-building programming. It\u2019s an of-the-moment answer to a question crafted by co-founders Michael Williamson, David Cummings, and Clint Jarvis: How can we create a golf and dining experience with all the community-building aspects of a private club that\u2019s more accessible\u2014especially to people living in cities?<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"2\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">\u201cThe private club world is over capacity, with long waitlists, and not available to most people, with entry fees of $150,000 and up,\u201d explains Williamson, who is the Intown Golf Club CEO. \u201cSo, golfers who don&#8217;t have a club aren\u2019t playing much\u2014or, they\u2019re playing public golf which often lacks the community element of a club.\u201d Add to that the non-golfers who don\u2019t feel comfortable at traditional golf clubs but still want a home base away from their homes to hang out, and Williamson and Cummings identified their target membership.<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"intown golf nashville\" title=\"intown golf nashville\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3000\" height=\"2250\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/25b86aea-7621-4ba4-9af6-0a7cf9d9dfcc.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of Reid Rolls<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"5\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">But would golfers really join just to play on indoor simulators? And how could they design the clubs to appeal to non-golfers?<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"7\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Regarding the first question, Williamson admits he was skeptical at first, despite owning his own simulator. But their timing proved fateful: Williamson and Cummings opened the first Intown Golf Club location in Atlanta in April 2021, right when local residents were hungry for opportunities to socialize away from home following the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">When it came to answering the second question, Williamson turned to his wife Michelle, an interior designer, and actress and fellow interior designer Brooklyn Decker, who\u2019d become a close friend of hers, to consult on the design of their first location with <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ai3online.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/ai3online.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Atlanta-based ai3 Architects\" data-node-id=\"8.1\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\">Atlanta-based ai3 Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">\u201cMost country clubs are more traditional in their design. We wanted something different,\u201d he says. \u201cWe really wanted the design to be something we\u2019re known for so that our members would use the club for business meetings, lunches, and cocktail hours. Anybody can do indoor golf. It\u2019s much harder\u2014and more expensive\u2014to do hospitality and design really well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"intown golf nashville\" title=\"intown golf nashville\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3000\" height=\"2250\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/6fac7d85-eda1-4a7b-99bb-9a560e8fbb00.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of Reid Rolls<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"11\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">For the design of Intown Golf\u2019s subsequent locations\u2014Charlotte, Philadelphia, Columbus, Ohio, Nashville, and Houston\u2014Michelle, Brooklyn, and their third partner, Morgan Baker, have been involved from day one, bringing their distinct sensibility that combines residential-level comfort and sophistication with a love of vintage to establish a unique sense of place for each project.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"12\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">\u201cOur primary goal is to create a space for non-golfers like me to feel at home,\u201d says Decker, of how she and her partners sought to differentiate their design from the intimidating atmosphere of more traditional golf clubs. \u201cWhen I go into a golf club, I feel like I am breaking the rules. For all the \u2018rules\u2019 of golf, we wanted Intown Golf to feel fresh and a little irreverent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">At the Nashville location, which opened in August 2025, Decker and her co-designers (who named their partnership By Idiots, reflecting their self-deprecating sense of humor) established their cheeky approach right at the entry, wrapping the curved walls in a dramatic, night garden scenic wallpaper by <a href=\"https:\/\/graciestudio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/graciestudio.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Gracie\" data-node-id=\"13.1\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gracie<\/a>\u2014with no view of golf bays in sight. \u201cThe wallpaper has this beautiful sense of arrival\u2014it almost looks like a golf course at night\u2014but you\u2019re not seeing the golf bays,\u201d says Decker.<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"intown golf nashville\" title=\"intown golf nashville\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3000\" height=\"2250\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/0cf7d1f5-b634-47a3-a80a-6e9c78b52835.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of Reid Rolls<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"15\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">That immersive approach to the decoration continues throughout the club. Golf bays are swathed entirely in a rich, custom red, ochre, and blue ikat fabric and wallpaper (<a href=\"https:\/\/schumacher.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/schumacher.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Schumacher\" data-node-id=\"15.1\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Schumacher<\/a>) and illuminated by a Murano glass chandelier. Inset into dark wood paneling, a wallpaper inspired by Japanese Edo-era paintings in rich terracotta and gold (<a href=\"https:\/\/iksel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/iksel.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Iksel Decorative Arts\" data-node-id=\"15.3\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Iksel Decorative Arts<\/a>, available in the U.S. and Canada through Schumacher) infuses the dining spaces with warmth. \u201cOur job here was to make it cozy and comfortable by bringing in the softness through our materiality,\u201d says Decker.<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"intown golf nashville\" title=\"intown golf nashville\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3000\" height=\"4000\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/dda00db9-9a51-4ff3-bb66-7a4538917821.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of Reid Rolls<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"intown golf nashville\" title=\"intown golf nashville\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2423\" height=\"3000\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/45802838-ac75-44e2-8980-abfb76835896.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of Reid Rolls<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"17\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">The design team has made an art form out of bringing a more residential approach to this commercial space, leaning heavily on locally sourced vintage pieces, from coffee tables and sideboards to leather seating and occasional chairs\u2014\u201cwhich, in many ways, are more durable,\u201d says Decker, who has been outspoken about how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veranda.com\/home-decorators\/a70955419\/brooklyn-decker-vintage-furniture\/\" target=\"_self\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.veranda.com\/home-decorators\/a70955419\/brooklyn-decker-vintage-furniture\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"using antiques and vintage is a more sustainable approach to decorating\" data-node-id=\"17.1\" class=\"body-link css-1xnf0nh emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">using antiques and vintage is a more sustainable approach to decorating<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"18\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Their local-first sourcing practice along with subtle nods to homegrown culture ensures that each Intown Golf location feels unique\u2014take the bench seating in the dining lounge modeled after pews in Nashville\u2019s Ryman Auditorium. \u201cFor Nashville, we took a field trip for research before we started the design,\u201d says Williamson. \u201cWhat I love about our process is we are telling stories about each city through the design of our clubs,\u201d says Williamson.<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"intown golf nashville\" title=\"intown golf nashville\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3000\" height=\"2250\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/df384a73-ee81-4206-89fb-9bc32cca88ee.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of Reid Rolls<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"20\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">While they\u2019ve leveraged their lack of interest in golf into a design strength of the clubs, Decker, Baker, and Williamson have also peppered each location with art, books, and accessories referencing golf culture like Easter eggs planted for the true enthusiasts. \u201cWe want to be respectful of those members who have a high golf IQ,\u201d says Decker.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"21\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Coffee tables and bookshelves are stacked with golf and design books, for example, and accessorized with golf club ashtrays and other ephemera. Bays are named after famed local golfers or other figures, and menus are printed on scorecards. And every club has some sort of snake incorporated into its design.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"22\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Decker says, \u201cWe like to include little nods to the golf experience like spotting a snake, by having a taxidermy rattlesnake in Nashville and a pair of snake sconces in Charlotte, that open up opportunities for storytelling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img draggable=\"true\" alt=\"intown golf nashville\" title=\"intown golf nashville\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"3000\" height=\"4000\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/108bd030-9931-43c3-8182-9c565f70bdeb.jpg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Courtesy of Reid Rolls<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"24\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Intown Golf is opening its next club in Raleigh later this summer. \u201cWe want to go where people are moving, so we seek out growing cities,\u201d says Williamson, who notes InTown Golf\u2019s membership skews slightly younger, with an average member age of 40, and is more diverse\u2014with more women as primary members\u2014than that of typical golf clubs.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"25\" class=\"css-1ood0zq emevuu60\">Along with its design, Williamson and the design team want Intown Golf to be known for its food and community programming. \u201cWe want to make it really hospitable to women and men, so we host things like mahjong nights, Mother\u2019s Day events, and various speaker series.
