The PGA Tour’s second Signature Event of the season returns to its longtime home at Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades after a one-year relocation to Torrey Pines due to area wildfires.

Back in 1926, the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce put up $10,000—which, even inflation-adjusted, is a far cry from today’s $20 million prize fund—minting what was then the richest purse in pro golf and giving birth to the L.A. Open. Three years later it became the first tournament broadcast on radio, an early embrace of media exposure in a market synonymous with entertainment and tech adoption. From the outset the tournament served up a distinctly Hollywood blend of sport and spectacle that still defines the tour stop to date.

Golf legend Ben Hogan, whose bronze likeness overlooks the 18th at Riv, topped the tourney leaderboard three times in the 1940s, a feat Arnold Palmer matched in the 1960s. The 1962 edition is where the Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, then just a cub, made his professional debut, earning $33.33 for a T50 finish. Three decades later, a 16-year-old Tiger Woods entered the field on a sponsor’s exemption and said his first ‘hello’ to the PGA Tour.

The contemporary era roll call only reinforces its stature as a proving ground for the game’s most elite competitors. Mike Weir won back-to-back here in 2003 and 2004, as did Phil Mickelson in 2008 and 2009, and Bubba Watson won three times in a five years span ending in 2018. You can tell a lot about the strength of a tournament by the caliber of its champions and the past three at the Genesis have been Rahm, Matsuyama and Åberg—proof the tournament’s engine remains in top gear.

When Genesis began sponsoring the tournament in 2017, they were a niche auto name building brand awareness. Three years ago they hit the one million global vehicles sold milestone and last year opened an 80,000 square foot design studio in El Segundo, California, a tell of the announcement this week that they intend to stay in the driver’s seat of L.A.’s PGA Tour stop for the long haul.

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIFORNIA – FEBRUARY 17: Tiger Woods answers questions with the media prior to the The Genesis Invitational at The Riviera Country Club on February 17, 2026 in Pacific Palisades, California. This week Genesis announced an additional $1 million in funding towards those goals.

“It’s an opportunity for us to continue working together,” Tiger Woods said of the extension. “We’ve had an amazing 10 years, and to be able to say that we’re going through 2030, the amount of kids that we’re going to be able to serve because of this, it’s going to be incredible,” he added.

“This is the home site.
