A family-owned Bullitt County golf course will close July 24 after 56 years in operation.<\/p>\n

The closure of Penn Run Golf Course<\/a>, located at 12900 Christman Drive, was announced in a June 10 Facebook <\/a>post by Vickie Emberson, one of the three owners of the property. Vickie Emberson said the family is moving on “to our next chapter of life and (to) enjoy the fruits of our labor” after parents Mathew and Louise Emberson opened the golf course May 1, 1970.<\/p>\n

“We have seen so many grow up, grow old and all the in between,” Vickie Emberson said in a statement. “(It) has been for many the first place they learned to play golf and (are) now teaching their children to golf.”<\/p>\n

An auction for the Penn Run Golf Course property is scheduled for Aug. 15, Vickie Emberson wrote on Facebook. Previews of the site will take place Aug. 7 and 14.<\/p>\n

Penn Run is among several golf courses in the Louisville area, including 10 public courses<\/a> overseen by Louisville Parks and Recreation.<\/p>\n
