Tommy Fleetwood is trying not to be a golf dad. It\u2019s late May, and the English golfer is just getting back from watching his middle son (stepson Murray \u201cMo\u201d Craig) play in a tournament. \u201cOur middle boy, he doesn\u2019t really respect my opinions very much,\u201d Fleetwood says with a smile. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t really listen that much. He likes having his own mindset and doing things, but then he\u2019ll ask me afterwards. I don\u2019t mind at all. I\u2019d like to think I’m pretty chilled, but I don\u2019t know. You\u2019ll have to ask the others that; hopefully I hide my emotions behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fleetwood, 35, has three sons: stepsons Oscar and Mo, and 8-year-old son Frankie Fleetwood, with wife Claire<\/a>. His youngest made headlines at the Masters Par 3 tournament<\/a> last year when he gave an adorable interview, sounding like a seasoned golfer, about practicing to get it over Ike\u2019s Pond on the ninth hole. \u201cWell, I\u2019ve been doing my hardest to get it over the green. I\u2019ve been practicing as hard as I can. Just not reaching it this year, but I\u2019m just trying my hardest,\u201d Frankie told an interviewer<\/a>, completely serious.<\/p>\n

Being a dad has changed Fleetwood\u2019s golf game. \u201cMy kids become my biggest sort of motivation,\u201d he tells T&C. \u201cI want to be the best example for them as well\u2026 I do feel like there\u2019s times when I achieve things and I love being able to show them that dreams are possible. I love that. That\u2019s where I get my most satisfaction.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds, \u201cIf my kids get to watch me be successful, I feel like I can tell them it is possible. You just put the work in that. But also, the way that you end up handling yourself because you have kids and you want to be the best example to them, I feel like it helps you in that way. And of course, in the present moment when I\u2019m on the 15th hole, I probably completely forget all that when I\u2019m starting to get grumpy with myself or whatever it is because that\u2019s just natural. But in the grand scheme of things, they just make you want to be such the best version of yourself. That only helps me with my goals for my career.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a remarkable end to 2025\u2014the best season of his career\u2014that included his first PGA Tour victory, Fleetwood has enjoyed a strong start to his 2026 season. Through mid-June, the Englishman has recorded a string of high finishes, including top-10 results at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (T4), Genesis Invitational (T7), THE PLAYERS Championship (T8), Truist Championship (T5), and the Memorial Tournament (T4).<\/p>\n

He\u2019s contemplative about the year so far. \u201cMy season, it\u2019s a funny one really,\u201d Fleetwood says. \u201cIt\u2019s been a little bit, I would say, hit and miss, but overall it\u2019s been pretty consistent. It\u2019s always going to be difficult coming off such a incredible end to last season that I had going back to July, really. I just had a great spell of form and played really, really well and then you have your break and then start again in the new season. And I\u2019ve played a lot of good golf.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fleetwood continues, ruminating, \u201cThe gist of it is I just haven\u2019t really scored as well as I\u2019ve played. So I\u2019ve been very, very close to being where I want to be but not quite there. But at the same time, there\u2019s not been anything that\u2019s been that bad. So it\u2019s been consistent enough in a way, but just not quite at the levels of the guys that have been playing the best so far.\u201d<\/p>\n

Going into the U.S. Open this weekend, he tries to keep his routine, well, consistent. \u201cThis year, I\u2019m always playing the week before a major and I try and mirror how I would like to practice the week of the major in my practice the week before playing as well.\u201d The important thing, he adds, is \u201cyou want to be as well prepared as possible on Thursday, but as well rested as possible as well. It\u2019s going to be a long week. If you can get that combination, then that’s ideal. If not, then one of the two is great. And if you\u2019ve got none of the two, then buckle up and do your best.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the four majors (the Masters<\/a>, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open, and The Open Championship<\/a>), it\u2019s also important to Fleetwood that he looks his best. \u201cThey\u2019re the biggest showcase in our sport,\u201d he says. \u201cThere\u2019s obviously always an element of look good, feel good\u2026 feel good, play good. I know it doesn\u2019t always follow that way, but still, I think it does have an effect.\u201d Majors, Fleetwood says, stand out, serving as a break from the week-in, week-out grind of the tour. \u201cYou want that to bring out the best in every aspect that you have\u2014including what you wear as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Come end of June, his outfit will also feature his forthcoming collaboration between TAG Heuer and TaylorMade: The limited edition Connected Calibre x TaylorMade, an updated iteration of TAG Heuer\u2019s new Connected E5<\/a> smartwatch. \u201cI\u2019ve won the Connected Watch for such a long time now, I always feel like it\u2019s part of me,\u201d says Fleetwood. \u201cWhen you get ready for the day, that\u2019s always something that goes on my wrist and then I carry it throughout my day. So it\u2019s exciting to have this newer version.\u201d<\/p>\n

In tournaments, golfers are limited to what they can wear. In practice, however, Fleetwood is \u201calways fiddling with the watch\u201d for data. \u201cYou\u2019re obviously always trying to grow and you\u2019re always trying to find ways to improve.\u201d He adds, \u201cfor anybody, at any level, to have the chance to use the same analysis and statistics as people do at the very top end of the game\u2014that\u2019s so cool. If I\u2019m going to use it because I think it\u2019s going to help me, it can help anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

It would be a fitting storyline if Fleetwood\u2019s first major win arrived on Father\u2019s Day. His kids will be watching, he says, unless an England game is on during the World Cup. \u201cI might be second choice on that given day and I\u2019ll completely accept it if England is doing well and I\u2019m second choice,\u201d he jokes. (He should be OK: Their first group stage match was yesterday, and the next two are on June 23 and June 27.) \u201cIf I\u2019m in contention for the U.S. Open, I\u2019m hoping that the main screen in the house has the U.S. Open. They won\u2019t tell me if it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n
