{"id":24131,"date":"2026-06-20T07:54:11","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T07:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/24131\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T07:54:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T07:54:11","slug":"us-open-2026-who-missed-the-cut-at-shinnecock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/24131\/","title":{"rendered":"US Open 2026: Who missed the cut at Shinnecock?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated June 19, 2026, 9:57 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. \u2013 After calling Wyndham Clark sinking a 33-foot birdie putt at the 18th\u00a0hole of the second round of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/golf\/pga\/us-open\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">126th\u00a0U.S. Open<\/a>, Sirius XM golf reporter John Maginnes remembered how 31 years ago at the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, he drained a similar length putt on the same green to make the cut on the number.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cIt was my first cut made,\u201d Maginnes recalled with a smile. \u201cHere\u2019s the funny thing. I spent the afternoon at a bar in Southampton because I finished 5 over and Greg Norman was the leader at 6 under and I wasn\u2019t inside the 10-shot rule. But it turned out there weren\u2019t 60 players within 10 shots so I got a weekend tee time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">How sweet it was. Shinnecock remains as tough as ever though <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/majors\/us-open\/2026\/06\/19\/us-open-2026-wyndham-clark-big-lead-shinnecock\/90623373007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Wyndham Clark, the 36-hole leader at 7 under<\/a>, is doing things never before seen by the players who competed in the previous five Opens held here.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The cut line ended up at 4 over, and there&#8217;s 72 players moving on to the weekend, while 84 were sent packing Friday night. It\u2019s the first time in DeChambeau\u2019s major career that he will miss three consecutive cuts in the game\u2019s biggest events. He was 1 for 6 in scrambling in the first round and 3 for 11 overall. He ranked No. 145 in SG: Putting on Thursday, wasting a good week with his approach shots.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks Koepka<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:440px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90624464007-getty-images-2282412108.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Brooks Koepka of the United States looks on from the seventh green during the second round of the 126th U.S. OPEN at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 19, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Koepka was the last player to hoist a U.S. Open trophy at Shinnecock, and he won&#8217;t have the chance to do it again. After posting 73 on Thursday, he made six bogeys on the front nine Friday en route to a 77, finishing the week 10 over and well outside the cutline.<\/p>\n<p>Si Woo Kim<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90624459007-getty-images-2282412368.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Si Woo Kim of the Republic of Korea reacts after missing a putt on the 16th green during the second round of the 126th U.S. OPEN at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 19, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Si Woo Kim was a popular pick entering the week thanks to his consistently solid play all season on the PGA Tour, but he couldn&#8217;t keep that up at Shinnecock. He put himself behind the 8-ball with a 77 on Thursday, and although he battled back to the tune of a 69 Friday, it wasn&#8217;t enough to sneak inside the cutline.<\/p>\n<p>Rickie Fowler<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90624558007-getty-images-2282225074.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Rickie Fowler of the United States walks off the eighth tee during the first round of the 126th U.S. OPEN at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 18, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Rickie Fowler will watch the weekend at the U.S. Open from home for a third straight year. After a T-5 in 2023, he missed the cut in 2024 and didn&#8217;t qualify last year. Five bogeys in his final 12 holes Friday at Shinnecock did him in.<\/p>\n<p>Shane Lowry<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:440px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90623807007-getty-images-2282340763.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Shane Lowry of Ireland walks across the first green during the second round of the 126th U.S. OPEN at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 19, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Irishman shot a pair of 73s and flamed out of the U.S. Open. Lowry expressed his frustration with the tough course, saying,\u00a0\u201cI find the course very hard, to be honest. It\u2019s as easy as we could have played in the last two days now.\u00a0It\u2019s a very stressful course to put yourself on a pedestal for all the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Smith<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90623821007-getty-images-2282392783.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cameron Smith of Australia walks across the 12th hole during the second round of the 126th U.S. OPEN at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 19, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Aussie looked as if he turned a corner when he snapped his streak of missed cuts in majors at the PGA Championship last month and was in the thick of it until Aaron Rai pulled away. But Smith reverted back to previous form, shooting\u00a06-over 146.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Scott<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90623825007-getty-images-2282200998.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Adam Scott of Australia walks to the first green during the first round of the 126th U.S. OPEN at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 18, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/majors\/us-open\/2026\/06\/18\/adam-scott-hits-major-milestone-at-us-open-phil-mickelson-fades\/90604774007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Aussie made his 100th\u00a0consecutive start<\/a> but there wasn\u2019t much to celebrate once the championship got started.\u00a0He missed the cut at Shinnecock for the third straight time it has hosted the Open. Spaun<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90623933007-getty-images-2282255070.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"J.J. His putter was the major culprit in the first round and his short game was lacking overall (5 of 16 in scrambling).\u00a0He didn&#8217;t make a birdie until his 24th hole of the championship. He shot rounds of 77-71.<\/p>\n<p>Patrick Cantlay<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90623950007-getty-images-2281747982.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Patrick Cantlay of the United States looks on prior to the 126th 2026 U.S. OPEN at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 15, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Cantlay\u2019s major woes continue. He missed his fourth cut in his last six majors. He needed a birdie at the last but instead took three putts to finish at 6-over 146.<\/p>\n<p>Padraig Harrington<img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:441px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/90623944007-getty-images-2282386062.jpg\" data-gl- decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Padraig Harrington of Ireland lines up a putt on the 12th green during the second round of the 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on June 19, 2026 in Southampton, New York.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Irishman bogeyed six holes in a seven-hole stretch of his first round and never was a factor. He didn\u2019t make a birdie until his 32nd hole of the tournament. But the wheels fell off quickly.
