{"id":2889,"date":"2026-05-25T10:12:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T10:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/2889\/"},"modified":"2026-05-25T10:12:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T10:12:11","slug":"three-of-worlds-top-players-commit-to-travelers-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/2889\/","title":{"rendered":"Three of world&#8217;s top players commit to Travelers Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/tag\/travelers-championship\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Travelers Championship<\/a> added three of golf\u2019s top players on Wednesday, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/player\/40098\/matt-fitzpatrick\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Fitzpatrick<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/player\/52955\/ludvig-aberg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ludvig Aberg<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/player\/46717\/viktor-hovland\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Viktor Hovland<\/a> all committed to play in Cromwell next month.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzpatrick has been arguably the best golfer in the game this season, having won a PGA Tour-best three tournaments already\u2013 the Valspar Championship, RBC Heritage, and Zurich Classic of New Orleans, alongside his brother, Alex.<\/p>\n<p>He currently ranks No. 3 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/fedexcup\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FedEx Cup standings<\/a>, behind only Scottie Scheffler and Cameron Young.<\/p>\n<p>Aberg, who\u2019s ranked No. 5 in the FedEx Cup standings, has finished in the top 10 in six tournaments so far this year. Hovland, who\u2019s a seven-time winner on tour, has struggled a bit this season but still ranks No. 30 in the Official World Golf Rankings and finished third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.<\/p>\n<p>All three helped Team Europe win the Ryder Cup championship last fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese commitments mean a lot to us \u2013 three phenomenal players joining an already outstanding field,\u201d Travelers Executive VP Andy Bessette said in a release. \u201cMatt\u2019s three Tour wins this season speak for themselves \u2013 no one has matched that. We first got to know Viktor and Ludvig through sponsor exemptions, and since then, they\u2019ve proven themselves as champions on and off the course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to welcome all three to what\u2019s shaping up to be one of the strongest fields in golf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The addition of Fitzpatrick now gives the tournament nine of the top 10 players including No. 1 Scheffler, No. 3 Young, No. 5 Justin Rose, followed by Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun and Chris Gotterup.
