It’s now been 20 years since Liberty National Golf Club has opened, and in those two decades, Dan Fireman, the Co-founder and Executive Chairman of the club, has seen everything. Tour events, a Presidents Cup, four actual presidents on his course at once, a ferry in the 10th fairway. <\/p>\n
Fireman, who joined us on The Loop podcast at the Liberty Cup, which will air on Golf Channel on July 4, told us the crazy story in a villa just left of the clubhouse overlooking the Hudson, which once rose so high that… well, we’ll let Dan take it from here.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“Well, [Hurricane] Sandy, for those of you who don’t remember, was a huge hurricane, wiped out all of New Jersey, in particular the Jersey Shore,” he said. “Over here, we got hit pretty good. The Hudson rose up pretty high, and someone left a ferry boat, like a New York Waterway’s ferry boat, over by Port Liberte, which is an apartment complex right next to the 10th [hole].<\/p>\n
“The water must have rose up, the ferry boat came over, and then when the water receded, the boat was in the 10th fairway. The 10th hole turned into a putt-putt.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
