{"id":30522,"date":"2026-07-02T01:46:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T01:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/30522\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T01:46:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T01:46:08","slug":"new-sony-championship-hawaii-golf-tournament-to-debut-at-waialae-in-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/30522\/","title":{"rendered":"New Sony Championship Hawaii golf tournament to debut at Waialae in 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; Starting next January, the PGA TOUR\u2019s Sony Open in Hawaii will be replaced at Waialae Country Club by a <a href=\"https:\/\/PGATOURChampions.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/PGATOURChampions.com\">PGA TOUR Champions<\/a> event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The newly named Sony Championship Hawaii will be held the week of Jan. 11 and features a $3 million purse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">PGA TOUR Champions consists of professional golfers age 50 and older, including 35 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The field will consist of 78 PGA TOUR Champion players from across the world. Pro-am competitions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by competition rounds from Thursday through Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">All three rounds will be televised on the Golf Channel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSony has been an incredible PGA TOUR partner since 1999, and we are looking forward to beginning this new era with the legends of the game competing on a truly iconic venue in Waialae Country Club,\u201d said PGA TOUR Champions president Miller Brady.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWelcoming the Sony Championship Hawaii to Waialae is more than hosting a world-class golf event. It\u2019s an opportunity to showcase the spirit of aloha and strengthen the community impact that has uplifted our islands for decades,\u201d said Gov. Josh Green.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Waialae Country Club has hosted the PGA TOUR\u2019s Sony Open in Hawaii every year since 1965.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Over the 28 years that Sony has been an event partner, the company contributed more than $27 million to Hawaii nonprofit organizations, benefiting local families in need.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Hawaii News Now.
