The look, the setup, and in many cases, the requirement to use a center shaft have all limited how many golfers are willing to give it a real chance.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0little-known\u00a0secret that the same putters that seem to\u00a0start popping up\u00a0everywhere\u00a0online,\u00a0also happen to be the most returned.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Odyssey saw that early with the original S2S Tri-Hot line. They pushed the category forward by moving the center of gravity closer to the face and\u00a0eliminating\u00a0the need for excessive shaft lean. Now, with the S2S Tri-Hot SB,\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0taking the next step by changing something that, on paper, seems simple but\u00a0could completely change the category.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today Odyssey is\u00a0introducing\u00a0a single bend, heel-oriented\u00a0zero torque putter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Solving the Barriers\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe identified three things holding golfers back: shaft lean, center shaft only, and alignment,\u201d\u00a0explained\u00a0Jacob Davidson\u00a0of Odyssey Golf.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That line sums up the direction\u00a0Odyssey is heading with the SB line.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/S2S-Tri-Hot-SB-Jailbird-address-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB Jailbird\" class=\"wp-image-73629\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The original S2S Tri-Hot addressed the first issue by moving the CG forward, allowing the shaft to enter the head along the topline. That created a more natural setup without forcing players into a forward press or unfamiliar hand position.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Still,\u00a0there was hesitation from players who simply\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0like the look or feel of a center shafted putter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/S2S-Tri-Hot-SB-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Odyssey Tri-Hot SB Putter\" class=\"wp-image-73630\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>This is where the SB comes in.\u00a0By\u00a0maintaining\u00a0that forward CG and shifting the shaft toward the heel using a single bend, Odyssey has created a putter that looks much closer to what golfers are used to while still\u00a0retaining\u00a0the\u00a0main\u00a0benefits of zero torque.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Odyssey\u2019s Director of R&amp;D Eric Steuben told us,\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a simple change, but it only works because we moved the CG forward first.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Single Bend, Different Outcome\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The SB designation stands for Single Bend, but it\u00a0represents\u00a0more than just a\u00a0hosel\u00a0option.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In traditional designs, moving the shaft toward the heel would compromise the torque profile.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0why most zero torque putters have leaned heavily into center shaft constructions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here, the forward CG does the heavy lifting. With more than 80% of the mass positioned under the topline and closer to the face, Odyssey can\u00a0maintain\u00a0that \u201cface stays square\u201d behavior while shifting the shaft location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/S2S-Tri-Hot-SB-Jailbird-address-with-ball-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73632\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The result is a setup that looks familiar at address.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA heel-shafted look with a traditional setup just wasn\u2019t possible before without it looking awkward,\u201d\u00a0explained\u00a0Steuben\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That familiarity shows up\u00a0immediately\u00a0when you put\u00a0the S2S Tri-Hot SB\u00a0down behind the ball. Center shafted designs often break up the topline or force compromises in alignment aids. By shifting to a single bend configuration, Odyssey\u00a0opened\u00a0up\u00a0the ability to use longer, uninterrupted lines across shapes like the #7.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It may seem subtle, but the cleaner visual makes a noticeable difference when standing over the ball.<\/p>\n<p>Multi-Material Construction and CG Placement\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Everything still revolves around the Tri-Hot construction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These putters use a combination of aluminum, steel, and a significant amount of tungsten, upwards of 120 to 140 grams positioned toward the front of the head.\u00a0That mass placement is what allows the CG to move forward, which in turn allows the\u00a0hosel\u00a0to sit on the topline and closer to the face.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From a design standpoint,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0all connected. Without the weight forward, none of the other changes\u00a0work. From\u00a0a performance standpoint,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0what gives the putter that stable, square-to-square motion through the stroke.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ai-Dual Insert and Roll Characteristics\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Odyssey continues to\u00a0let their\u00a0insert technology\u00a0shine\u00a0here. The S2S Tri-Hot SB uses the same Ai-Dual insert found in the original\u00a0line. This\u00a0is a dual-layer urethane design with a firmer inner core and a softer outer layer. The goal is to\u00a0maintain\u00a0ball speed consistency across the face while improving forward roll.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehackersparadise.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Ai-Dual.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" data-id=\"73634\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Ai-Dual-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73634\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehackersparadise.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/FRD-Face.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" data-id=\"73635\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/FRD-Face-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73635\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The insert works in conjunction with the FRD groove pattern, which features a more aggressive 19-degree slope designed to get the ball rolling sooner, regardless of strike location.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re getting top spin across the entire face, not just in the center,\u201d noted Steuben.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve\u00a0discussed the Ai-Dual insert quite a bit since the original S2S Tri-Hot line dropped.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0notably softer than Ai-One,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0forgiving, and the roll technology truly is remarkable.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB Grip and Shaft Pairing\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Odyssey also made a few\u00a0other\u00a0changes\u00a0in the S2S Tri-Hot line\u00a0that\u00a0shouldn\u2019t\u00a0be overlooked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Black SL 120 shaft is heavier and stiffer than\u00a0previous\u00a0offerings, helping create a more stable overall feel.\u00a0The\u00a0Pistol Plus grip is mid-sized with more defined edges, giving players a clearer sense of face orientation throughout the stroke.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/S2S-Tri-Hot-SB-grip-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"S2S Tri-Hot SB Grip\" class=\"wp-image-73636\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>These\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0headline features, but they play\u00a0an important role\u00a0in how the putter balances and feels in hand.\u00a0If we could give a simple, one-word description, it feels \u201cnormal\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Odyssey S2S Tri-Hot SB Shapes and Options\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The S2S Tri-Hot SB lineup includes three primary shapes:\u00a0Jailbird, #7 and Rossie.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Jailbird-SB-TRI-HOT-S2S.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"73639\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Jailbird-SB-TRI-HOT-S2S.jpg\" alt=\"Tri-Hot SB Jailbird\" class=\"wp-image-73639\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"73641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/7-SB-TRI-HOT-S2S.jpg\" alt=\"Tri-Hot SB #7\" class=\"wp-image-73641\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Rossie-SB-TRI-HOT-S2S.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" data-id=\"73640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Rossie-SB-TRI-HOT-S2S.jpg\" alt=\"Tri-Hot SB Rossie\" class=\"wp-image-73640\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is also a Cruiser version of the #7, featuring a longer 38\u201d build, heavier head, and extended grip for players who prefer a counterbalanced setup.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All models share the same core design principles, with differences coming down to head shape and overall weighting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Early Thoughts \u2013 Jailbird SB\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve\u00a0spent\u00a0a couple\u00a0weeks\u00a0working\u00a0with the Jailbird SB,\u00a0both indoors and\u00a0on-course and one thing stands out immediately, it looks familiar.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0know what you were holding, you\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0immediately\u00a0identify\u00a0it as a zero-torque design.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We have mixed feelings about that. On one hand, the Tri-Hot SB really makes the entire zero torque category more accessible. On the other hand,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0impossible to deny that unusual looking designs stand out more on TV and on the rack. In other words, Odyssey will have to devote substantial marketing effort to let consumers know this line is unique. Of course,\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0recognized this and even include special stickers advertising the\u00a0zero-torque\u00a0technology on the grip.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/S2S-Tri-Hot-SB-Jailbird-sole-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73638\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The transition from a traditional mallet into this\u00a0line should be\u00a0much more seamless\u00a0for golfers dabbling in zero torque\u00a0than what\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0seen from most of the category.\u00a0The visuals are\u00a0intuitive, alignment is clean and\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0no immediate adjustment period just to get comfortable over the ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s\u00a0another point we need to make though. If you have found great comfort in a standard zero torque putter, especially a center-shaft design, the S2S Tri-Hot SB will\u00a0actually feel\u00a0a bit unusual. Ironic, right? The net effect of the heel-shafted orientation is that\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0want to stand a bit farther from the ball. Of course,\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0also probably not the target consumer here.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From a stroke perspective, you can feel the stability. The head wants to stay square, but it\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0feel forced or mechanical.\u00a0We found the same benefits\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0come to love from the S2S Tri-Hot line: easy alignment, an incredibly stable face,\u00a0the ability to\u00a0consistently start the ball on the target line, and impressive forward roll.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tour Validation\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s\u00a0already some validation\u00a0of the S2S Tri-Hot SB\u00a0on Tour as well. Max Greyserman has the SB Jailbird in the bag, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0present on other world tours as well.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as he saw the single bend, it was\u00a0an\u00a0immediate. \u2018Yeah, I want to try that,\u2019\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Steuben\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Players who were previously hesitant about center shafted designs have been more willing to test this version, and in some cases, keep it in the bag.\u00a0Odyssey expects to see more Tour adoption now that\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0moved beyond prototype seeding.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Our Take\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While we\u00a0shouldn\u2019t\u00a0be surprised, it still is cool to see the Odyssey R&amp;D machine at work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Zero torque has proven it can deliver performance. The challenge has been getting golfers comfortable enough to try it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the zero torque putter people have been waiting for,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Davidson\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/S2S-Tri-Hot-SB-reivew-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-73637\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>That sounds\u00a0bold, but\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0some truth to it.\u00a0By removing the visual and setup barriers, Odyssey has made this concept easier to approach. You\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have to change how you aim. You\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have to change how you set your hands.
