Public shaming is so back.<\/p>\n

The quickest way to learn a lesson is by making a mistake. And one fan at Shinnecock Hills quite literally found that out almost instantly.<\/p>\n

On the fourth hole during the opening round of the U.S. Open, Rory McIlroy found himself in trouble, attempting to hit a shot out of some lengthy fescue. As soon as it was struck, the World No. 2 indicated that it was a mishit, and his ball sailed hard right. It took one massive leap on the cart path before settling near some fan foot traffic, and an unassuming woman took it upon herself to pick the ball up for what I assume is some sort of souvenir.<\/p>\n

The 40-second clip is making its rounds across the Twittersphere because the crowd reaction that was picked up extremely well on the broadcast is hilarious. The chorus of disgusted “no’s” is a thing of public shaming beauty, which has truly become a lost art form.<\/p>\n

I’m sure the woman just made an honest mistake, and probably was left a little embarrassed, but hey, things happen, and now she knows that a random golf ball that she sees during a major championship isn’t actually random at all and it’s better left untouched.<\/p>\n
