GRUNDY CENTER, Iowa (KCRG) – Grundy Center senior Judd Jirovsky is set to play golf at Stanford University, and spending his final weeks of high school sports focused on one more run at a baseball state title.<\/p>\n
At Grundy Center, Jirovsky participated in football, basketball, track and field, golf and baseball.<\/p>\n
His future is in golf at Stanford, but baseball remains his first love. This season, he\u2019s been incredible, batting .596 and pitching to 0.35 ERA.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a one in a million. Like, you only get one shot at coaching a kid like this,\u201d said head baseball coach Patrick Brown.<\/p>\n
Jirovsky said his connection to the community has driven his involvement across multiple sports.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody does everything because you want to participate. You want to stay involved. You just want to give back to the community that\u2019s given you so much,\u201d Jirovsky said.<\/p>\n
That community connection extends beyond Grundy Center\u2019s borders. Brown said Jirovsky\u2019s name is recognized wherever the program goes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wear Grundy Center stuff everywhere. And someone will say, well, where are you from? And they\u2019ll see, they know. Oh, I\u2019m from Grundy Center. \u2018Well, do you know Judd Jirovsky?\u2019\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n
Jirovsky and his fellow seniors have played together since roughly fourth grade on a travel team. With the regular season winding down, the group has one more opportunity to reach the state tournament before going their separate ways.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously going all the way is the goal of every team. … We pride ourselves on everybody being 0-0 from here on out. And you lose that one game and there\u2019s no tomorrow,\u201d Jirovsky said.<\/p>\n
Before his transition to Stanford, his focus remains on his teammates and finishing his high school career on top.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust don\u2019t take anything for granted, give it your all and know that tomorrow could be your last,\u201d Jirovsky said. \u201cNothing more you want for each of them too to have success on the way out.\u201d<\/p>\n
