Scottie Scheffler has revealed just how much he would like to play more tournaments in Australia, with the world No.1 player’s declaration sure to be music to the ears of the country’s golf chiefs.<\/p>\n
Preparing for this week’s Scottish Open, the American superstar admitted he was looking forward to playing more international events amid PGA Tour schedule changes – and he made it clear Australia and its sandbelt courses were right at the top of his wish list.<\/p>\n
“It definitely interests me. I’d like to see \u200chow it shapes out the next couple of years. There’s a lot of places I think I’d like to play,” Scheffler said, addressing reporters at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
A new system is being introduced from next season in which PGA Tour players \u200cwill have more time during the autumn to take their pick of competing in overseas events.<\/p>\n
Scheffler, who turned 30 last month, admits he’s at the point in his life when he wants to find the best balance between family time and playing international golf.<\/p>\n

“I’m at a time in my life where I have a young family at home and young kids,” said the four-time major winner.<\/p>\n
“Those are times – the fall is a special time for our family. It’s where we can really check \u200cout and be \u200ctogether and I get \u2060to spend a lot of time with my kids. So I hold those moments \u200bpretty sacred.<\/p>\n
“But at the same time, I love golf and I would love to be able to play more internationally. Like Australia.<\/p>\n
“New Zealand is a place we would love to be able to go to. My wife has always wanted to go to New Zealand.<\/p>\n
“I love this style (links golf in Britain) of golf and I feel like it’s pretty unique \u2060to here … but going to play the sandbelt in Australia would \u200cbe pretty special as \u200bwell. Hopefully, I can find the time. It’s definitely an intriguing part of the schedule and, yeah, it definitely interests me.”<\/p>\n

Big international names have been increasingly attracted to the country’s marquee summer events, with Rory McIlroy, who played at the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne last December, having suggested the event “should almost be the fifth major”.<\/p>\n
In Scotland, \u200cScheffler is getting into gear before defending his British Open title next week at Royal Birkdale.<\/p>\n
He’s seeking his \u200bfirst win since The American Express in January, although he’s had four other runner-up finishes, including at the Masters in April and \u200bhis play-off loss at the Travelers Championship \u2060in his most recent outing last month.<\/p>\n
Last year, he finished tied for eighth in the Scottish Open with four rounds in the 60s.<\/p>\n
