England captain Harry Kane has revealed he played a round of golf with President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
President Trump told reporters on Monday that he had played golf with Kane, complimenting the 32-year-old on his golf, his football, and as a person. Kane returned the compliments on Friday evening, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity, and saying that the U.S. President golf was \u201cpretty good\u201d, and that he hoped to be that good when he was 80.<\/p>\n
Kane, speaking at the pre-match press conference in Miami ahead of Saturday\u2019s World Cup quarter-final against Norway, confirmed that the round took place in Palm Beach, Fl. \u201cabout 18 months ago\u201d, and said that it was a \u201cunique experience\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI played alright to be honest,\u201d Kane said, when asked about Trump\u2019s claim. \u201cWe played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. So when the President invites you somewhere \u2026 It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him, and to play golf with him. His golf is pretty good, to be honest. I hope I can play golf as well as him when I\u2019m his age, that\u2019s for sure. So (it was) a unique experience. I\u2019m just grateful he invited me down to play.\u201d<\/p>\n
Just hours before his comments in the Oval Office, President Trump had posted on his TruthSocial social media platform on Sunday about his admiration for the Bayern Munich striker. \u201cHarry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!\u201d, Trump posted, immediately after England\u2019s 3-2 round-of-16 win over Mexico in Mexico City.<\/p>\n
The following day Trump said again how much he admired Kane, revealing their golf round for the first time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think (Harry) Kane is a great player,\u201d Trump said. \u201cSee, I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He\u2019s a good golfer. He\u2019s really great.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kane also revealed at his press conference that Sir David Beckham wished the whole England team luck when he met them before their training session at the Inter Miami facility in Fort Lauderdale on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe just wished us luck, after most games he messages me and we stay in touch,\u201d Kane said of Beckham. \u201cHe is a big England fan, we all know how much it means for him to represent England, to be captain, (to) play the way he did every time he wore the shirt.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was just there to support us. It was good to catch up with him, and for some of (the) other lads to have a chat with him. He\u2019s an England legend.
