England captain Harry Kane has confirmed he played golf with US President Donald Trump, calling the experience “surreal”.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s quarterfinal clash against Norway, the 32-year-old Kane went into detail regarding his date with Trump.<\/p>\n

“I played alright to be honest,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach [Florida].\u00a0<\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump has had no shortage of golf days during his two terms in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

“So when the president invites you somewhere \u2026 It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him, and to play golf with him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“His golf is pretty good, to be honest. I hope I can play golf as well as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. So, [it was] a unique experience. I’m just grateful he invited me down to play.”<\/p>\n

Mr Trump has made no secret of his admiration for the England captain, calling him a “GREAT player” on his Truth Social media platform after England’s 3-2 win over Mexico.<\/p>\n

The US president followed that up with another Kane shout out the following day.<\/p>\n

“I think Kane is a great player,” Mr Trump said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“See, I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer. He’s really great.”<\/p>\n

England’s quarterfinal against Norway pits two of the world’s most dominant strikers against each other as Kane takes on Norwegian spearhead Erling Haaland.<\/p>\n

Haaland has netted seven goals so far in what is his first World Cup campaign, while Kane has six.
