Mini drivers are\u00a0past the\u00a0experimental phase.\u00a0What started as a niche\u00a0option\u00a0for a handful of Tour players has quickly become one of the fastest-growing categories in golf equipment.\u00a0Nearly every\u00a0major manufacturer now has a mini driver in the lineup, and golfers have embraced the concept of a club that bridges the gap between a driver and a\u00a0fairway\u00a0wood.\u00a0Last year,\u00a0Titleist\u00a0entered the\u00a0ring\u00a0with the GT280 Mini Driver<\/a>. Now, the company is back with its next evolution,\u00a0the\u202fGTS300 Mini Driver.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At first glance, the\u00a0changes appear straightforward. The head grows from 280cc to 300cc, forgiveness\u00a0increases\u00a0and the overall shaping evolves. Spend a little more time at the details, however, and it becomes clear that this isn\u2019t simply a larger version of its predecessor. Instead, the GTS300 reflects what Titleist learned from Tour validation and golfer feedback, while continuing to refine what a modern mini driver can be.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A Growing Category\u00a0<\/p>\n

The timing of this release says something about the current equipment landscape. Mini drivers have moved beyond novelty status. For many players,\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0becoming a legitimate second\u00a0option\u00a0off the tee. They offer more confidence than a driver on demanding holes while providing more distance than\u00a0a traditional\u00a0fairway wood. Others appreciate having a club\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0still playable from the turf when the situation calls for it, and the larger face does offer more real estate.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Titleist clearly sees long-term potential in the category. Rather than waiting several years between releases, Titleist has already introduced a second generation, something we don\u2019t typically see from the company.<\/p>\n

More Forgiveness Without Losing Versatility\u00a0<\/p>\n

The biggest change is the head size.\u00a0The GTS300 increases to 300cc while maintaining\u00a0the same face height as the GT280. According to Titleist, the additional volume delivers between 15 and 20 percent higher MOI, creating more forgiveness while preserving the look and versatility that golfers appreciated in the original design.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Increasing head size\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0automatically create a better mini driver. Make it too large and it begins to lose the qualities that separate it from a standard driver. By maintaining the familiar face profile while adding volume elsewhere, Titleist appears to be\u00a0chasing stability without sacrificing confidence from the fairway.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That design philosophy also shows\u00a0up in the sole.\u00a0While the GT280 carried over much of the visual language from the GT fairway woods, the GTS300 introduces a cleaner, more streamlined sole. The shaping looks more refined overall, with smoother transitions and less of the pronounced center keel that defined the\u00a0previous\u00a0model. The result is a club\u00a0that appears faster and\u00a0more\u00a0nimble, while still\u00a0retaining\u00a0the low-profile characteristics expected from a mini driver.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Technology That Carries Over\u00a0<\/p>\n

The GTS300 continues to feature Titleist\u2019s Seamless Thermoform Crown, a Proprietary Matrix Polymer composite that saves weight while allowing engineers to tune sound and feel. The forged L-Cup face also returns. It wrapps around the lower\u00a0portion\u00a0of the clubhead to improve ball speed and consistency on strikes low on the face, an area where mini drivers often see contact, especially from\u00a0the turf.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Adjustability\u00a0remains\u00a0familiar as well.\u00a0Dual forward and rear weight ports allow golfers to tune launch and spin characteristics depending on how they intend to use the club. Keeping the heavier weight in the rear promotes higher launch and greater forgiveness, while moving it forward lowers spin and produces a more penetrating ball flight for players looking to maximize\u00a0speed and distance\u00a0from the tee.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Built from Tour Feedback\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to Titleist, Tour feedback played a significant role in its development. Players who appreciated the performance of the GT280 wanted additional forgiveness while\u00a0maintaining\u00a0the versatility that made the original successful. That feedback\u00a0ultimately led\u00a0to the larger 300cc profile.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Justin Thomas is one of those players. According to Titleist, the GTS300 gives Thomas the flexibility to play a longer driver while maintaining a dependable secondary option when accuracy is the priority.<\/p>\n

Titleist GTS300 Mini Driver \u2013 Who Is It For?\u00a0<\/p>\n

The GTS300\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0designed for every golfer, nor is it intended to replace the driver at the top of the bag. Instead, it fills a specific role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Golfers looking for more confidence\u00a0on\u00a0tight driving holes may find it to be an ideal alternative off the tee.\u00a0Many\u00a0will\u00a0also\u00a0appreciate the ability to hit shots from the fairway without\u00a0introducing a ton of risk. The added forgiveness should also make the category more approachable for players who liked the concept of the GT280 but wanted a little more stability.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Like the rest of the GTS\u00a0metalwood\u00a0family, it\u00a0utilizes\u00a0Titleist\u2019s\u202fSureFit\u00a0hosel, allowing golfers to fine tune loft and lie settings for their preferred ball flight.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Stock shaft options include the\u202fMitsubishi Tensei 1K Blue\u202fand\u202fProject X Denali Red, with a variety of premium custom shafts available through Titleist\u2019s fitting network.
