Fitzpatrick, who won the\u00a02023 RBC Heritage<\/a>, torched\u00a0Harbour Town Golf Links<\/a>\u00a0to the tune of a bogey-free 8-under 63 on Friday to race in front<\/a> at the PGA Tour signature event.<\/p>\n Fitzpatrick birdied three holes in a row on each nine, including a wild birdie at the par-3 14th\u00a0when his 8-iron sailed left, hit a tree and ricocheted back into play and on the fringe of the green. He proceeded to make the 33-foot putt for an improbable deuce.<\/p>\n \u201cYou need those in golf,\u201d he said. \u201cIt’s not always going to go your way for 72 holes. Nice to get the break and then nice to take advantage of it.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2014 Adam Schupak<\/p>\n Sahith Theegala holes out for eagle<\/p>\n After driving it 285 yards on the par-4 16th, Theegala then holed out from the fairway from 140 yards out, his ball bouncing three times and the rolling into the cup like a putt. That moved him to 6 under and inside the top 20.<\/p>\n RBC defending champ is now in last place<\/p>\n It’s been a rough couple of days for Justin Thomas. After shooting 5-over 76 the first day, he followed up with a 4-over 75 and is 9 under overall, which has him 82nd and last place. Tony Finau is just one shot better at 8 over, with Taylor Pendrith at 7 over.<\/p>\n Caddies are loved at the RBC Back-to-back hole-outs are cool<\/p>\n Benny Booms and Bobby Mac went back-to-back on Friday at the RBC.<\/p>\n Scottie Scheffler hit every fairway during Friday’s second round<\/p>\n From the PGA Tour:<\/p>\n The World No. 1 is tied for 13th (68-67), 7 under overall.<\/p>\n Matt Fitzpatrick stretches lead to five shots<\/p>\n Fitzpatrick has it to 14 under after another birdie on the 16th hole. He now leads by five over Patrick Cantlay (69-64) and Harris English (9 under through five holes Friday).<\/p>\n Akshay Bhatia made 11 birdies on Friday at the RBC<\/p>\n Bhatia’s scorecard showed a double bogey and a bogey but more importantly, 11 circles. He went out in 33, came back in 30 and signed for a 63. He shot 73 on Thursday but shot up 50 spots on the leaderboard to get into a tie for 15th.<\/p>\n Two times has a player recorded 11 birdies<\/a> in this tournament and both times he went on to win: Peter Lonard in 2005 and Justin Thomas in 2025.<\/p>\n Matt Fitzpatrick opens three-shot lead<\/p>\n The 2026 Valspar Championship winner is aiming for his second in a month and Fitzpatrick is riding a hot putter. Fitzy is at 12 under with four holes to go on Friday, up three on Harris English and Michael Brennan.<\/p>\n Rickie Fowler is cooking at RBC<\/p>\n Rickie Fowler fired a 65 on Thursday and he’s continued with that solid play in Friday’s second round, posting a pair of birdies on the front nine to, as of 10 a.m. ET, jump into the lead at 8 under. Fowler didn’t qualify for the Masters again this year, marking the fifth time in the last six years that he’s failed to make it to Augusta, but he licks his chops at the chance to play the RBC, where he got his first PGA Tour start.<\/p>\n “Always excited to come to this place. It’s always been fun to play. Going back, having my first start here a long time ago, it’s a fun golf course to play. The family enjoys it. It’s always a special week, but also want to be in good form because I feel like I can play this golf course well,” he said after Thursday’s round.<\/p>\n “Nice to get off to a good start today. We’ve had a few slow weeks, and I felt like I just wasn’t getting much out of it. At Players, I felt like I was in a better spot, and then in Texas, missing two cuts, obviously not what we wanted, trying to make a push to get inside the top 50 for Augusta, but kind of resetting and make a run to keep moving up and be in a better spot for the summer.”<\/p>\n Keegan Bradley on fire early in round<\/p>\n It’s been a hot start for Keegan Bradley, who had his best finish of the season at the Masters last week, finishing T-21. Bradley started his second round with birdies on four of the first seven holes and, as of 10:20 a.m. ET, he is in a tie with Fowler at 8 under for the lead. Bradley missed the cut in two previous signature events, the Arnold Palmer and the Genesis.<\/p>\n Ludvig Aberg put on a show and has the 18-hole lead<\/a> after shooting 8-under 63. Harris English and Viktor Hovland are tied for second at 7 under. A slew of guys are tied for fourth at 6 under, including Gary Woodland, whose feel-good story continues<\/a> in Harbour Town. Rickie Fowler is also in that 6-under group. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is T-20 at 3 under.
