SOUTHPORT, England \u2014 There was a time, not long ago, when Bryson DeChambeau looked like he was about to take over the golf world.<\/p>\n

He won the 2024 U.S. Open, his second victory in the national open, and was at the top of his game.<\/p>\n

This year with LIV Golf, he has two wins and three third-place finishes. And, of course, his YouTube brand is booming<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But DeChambeau has appeared lost in the major championships in 2026, having missed the cut at the Masters, PGA and U.S. Open entering this week\u2019s British Open.<\/p>\n

Another missed cut at Birkdale and he\u2019ll be oh-fer for 2026.<\/p>\n

The good news is DeChambeau finished 10th at last year\u2019s British Open (though he opened with a 78) after a tie for fifth at the 2025 Masters and a tie for second at the PGA.<\/p>\n

DeChambeau consistently declined interview requests last month at Shinnecock and hasn\u2019t been quoted about his form this week.<\/p>\n

He has, however, drawn outside criticism from the likes of former multiple Open winner Nick Faldo, who told Sky Sports<\/a> that DeChambeau \u201chas zero clue of strategy,\u201d adding, \u201cHe said it last year, I think on TV \u2014 \u2018I\u2019m going to go out there and attack the links.\u2019 Well, I\u2019ve never attacked a links, you thread it, don\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t think: \u2018I\u2019ll just bomb it down there, can\u2019t see where I\u2019m going, it\u2019s 20-yards wide.\u2019 Oh yeah, good luck.\u201d<\/p>\n

A fun topic of conversation among some players this week is where they keep their most prized trophies.<\/p>\n

Scottie Scheffler, the defending Open champion who\u2019s had the Claret Jug for the past year; Aaron Rai, the reigning PGA champion; and Wyndham Clark, who won the U.S. Open last month at Shinnecock, offered varying answers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a room in my house where I keep some trophies,\u2019\u2019 Scheffler said. \u201cI call it the golf room. It has all my crap. It has some stuff I can work on my clubs with and trophies and some pictures and whatnot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now it\u2019s a bit of a mess, to be honest with you. It doesn\u2019t really look presentable. For instance, if you were to interview me at my house, I\u2019d have to do some serious cleanup in the golf room because I\u2019m a bit embarrassed at how it looks.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

He said the Claret Jug, which he had to return this week, was \u201ckind of sitting in the corner next to the Wanamaker,\u2019\u2019 which he won as the 2025 PGA champion.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery now and then when I\u2019m in there working I kind of take a peek,\u2019\u2019 Scheffler said.<\/p>\n

Clark is in the process of building a house and doesn\u2019t have a man cave or trophy room yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI live in a condo, and they\u2019re all basically on my dining table,\u2019\u2019 he said of his trophies. \u201cI am in the process of building a home, and there\u2019s going to be an office where there\u2019ll be some trophies.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Rai said the Wanamaker Trophy is at his father\u2019s house, saying, \u201cWe\u2019re not planning on having a trophy room at my house. For me and my wife, it felt like it was fitting, and it was the right place for it to be at my dad\u2019s house \u2014 at the family house, really.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

No English player has won the British Open at an English Open venue since Tony Jacklin in 1969. Rai, who is English, was asked what sort of pressure that puts on the 21 English players in the field this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s always pressure every single week no matter what tournament it is,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cI think most of that is self-imposed. Obviously, this is a major championship. It\u2019s a huge event in its own right. So there\u2019s always that element of pressure that is there.
