SOUTHPORT, ENGLAND – Ryan Fox delivered the biggest moment of his career Sunday, winning the 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale with a birdie on the final hole to claim his first major championship.<\/p>\n
The 39-year-old from New Zealand rolled in a 12-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to finish at 10 under par, one stroke ahead of American Cameron Young. The victory made Fox just the third golfer from New Zealand to win a men\u2019s major championship and earned him the $3.2 million winner\u2019s prize.<\/p>\n
Fox entered the weekend several shots off the lead before vaulting into contention with a record-tying 8-under 62 during Saturday\u2019s third round. He carried that momentum into Sunday despite a brief stumble on the back nine.<\/p>\n
