Tillinghast masterpiece in Springfield, New Jersey, opened in 1922 and built an enviable championship resume over the next century, hosting four U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, three U.S. Amateurs and a U.S. Women\u2019s Open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">In 2018, Baltusrol turned to renowned architect Gil Hanse to chart a path back to its roots. Hanse was tasked with developing a comprehensive master restoration plan for the Lower Course, a project designed to recapture many of the architectural features and strategic elements that had been lost over time.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:493px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/76326851007-87-778262984.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Great Hazard on. The Lower Course was preparing for another prominent stretch on the championship stage, with the 2023 KPMG Women\u2019s PGA Championship and the 2029 PGA Championship already on the calendar. The club is currently <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/2026\/06\/08\/top-200-classic-golf-courses-ranked-united-states-golfweeks-best-2026\/90283876007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">No. 34 on the Golfweek&#8217;s Best top 200 classic courses list.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">&#8220;Baltusrol has been part of the fabric of American championship golf for more than a century, and we are honored that the USGA continues to entrust our membership with hosting some of the game&#8217;s most important events,\u201d said Baltusrol President Doug Rotatori. \u201cThe 2033 U.S. Mid-Amateur, 2039 U.S. Amateur, 2046 U.S. Open and future U.S. Women\u2019s Open represent an extraordinary run of championships for our club, and our membership and staff look forward to preparing our venue to once again test the best players in the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"gnt_em_img_i\" style=\"height:439px\" fetchpriority=\"high\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/86972773007-baltusrol-tillinghast-credit-bill-hornstein-ba-6-a-5096.jpg\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A.W. Tillinghast was the original designer of Baltusrol Golf Club's two course, the Upper and the Lower, which opened in 1922 in Springfield, N.J.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The U.S. Open will be contested on the Lower Course, while the two amateur championships will utilize both the Lower and Upper Courses, with the primary course determined at a later date.
