MONTICELLO \u2014 A day on the golf course has translated into life-changing support for local veterans through the annual Patriot Assistance Dogs Golf Tournament hosted by American Legion Post 260.<\/p>\n
Since launching the fundraiser in 2022, the Monticello Legion has donated $100,000 to Patriot Assistance Dogs, enough to help fund the training and placement of five service dogs for veterans. Each dog costs about $20,000 to train and place with a qualifying veteran.<\/p>\n
The annual tournament returns Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Monticello Country Club with a noon shotgun start. The event will be held rain or shine.<\/p>\n
The cost is $125 per person and includes 18 holes of golf and dinner afterward at the American Legion. Golfers will also have the opportunity to participate in games on the course, while a silent auction and raffle will be held at the Legion following play.<\/p>\n
Patriot Assistance Dogs, a Detroit Lakes-based nonprofit, trains many rescued dogs to become service animals for veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injuries and other challenges.<\/p>\n
The organization provides the dogs at no cost to qualifying veterans, pairing them with highly trained companions that offer daily support and increased independence.<\/p>\n
According to the Legion, the tournament has helped not only veterans but also rescued dogs by giving them a new purpose through service.<\/p>\n
The registration deadline is July 24, although entries will be accepted through Aug. 5 if team spots remain available.<\/p>\n
