Robert MacIntyre has suggested that he is pleased to have been drawn with Rory McIlroy and Chris Gotterup for the opening two rounds of the Scottish Open, but joked that he may have one problem with his group. <\/p>\n

MacIntyre is going to be one of the favourites to win this week at The Renaissance Club. The highlight of his career to date came with his victory at the same venue back in 2024. <\/p>\n

Of course, the Scot will also have the majority of the crowd on his side this week at North Berwick. But perhaps there may be some divided loyalties among those who follow his group on Thursday and Friday. <\/p>\n

Robert MacIntyre issues his verdict on playing with Rory McIlroy and Chris Gotterup at the Scottish Open<\/p>\n

The previous three winners of the event have been put together, with Rory McIlroy<\/a> and Chris Gotterup<\/a> also returning to the scene of a previous triumph. <\/p>\n

McIlroy produced one of the most iconic shots of his career on his way to winning in 2023. Meanwhile, Gotterup won a lot of admirers with the way he edged the battle with the Northern Irishman 12 months ago. <\/p>\n

Few seemed to fancy the American\u2019s chances before the final round got going. <\/p>\n

And speaking to the media ahead of the opening round when asked about playing alongside McIlroy, MacIntyre insisted that he was excited to tee it up with two of the best players in the world right now. <\/p>\n

\u201cFirst time I played here, get the ball on the tee, I think that was my first Scottish Open, as well. It was my first one. I don\u2019t mind getting thrown in the deep end, but that one, it was something that I thought I had to do, and it was a massive learning curve,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

MORE RORY MCILROY STORIES<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it just feels like another round of golf. Only problem is I\u2019m going to be hitting in first all day with the two of them because they both hit it miles.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, look, it will be good fun. I enjoy both their company. So yeah, good group.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robert MacIntyre has had a good year, but needs a major to kick on to the next level<\/p>\n

It has been a reasonable year for MacIntyre so far. He has registered three top five finishes on the PGA Tour, with his best result being finished tied for second at the Valero Texas Open. <\/p>\n

He also finished fourth at The Players Championship. <\/p>\n

MacIntyre is one of a number of outstanding players who now needs to win a major to take that next step in his career.<\/p>\n

The good news is that three of his five top 10s in the majors have come at The Open Championship. So if he can impress this week at the Scottish Open, he will be able to take enormous confidence with him to Royal Birkdale. <\/p>\n
