{"id":43558,"date":"2026-07-28T17:52:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T17:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/43558\/"},"modified":"2026-07-28T17:52:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T17:52:13","slug":"report-liv-golf-canceling-team-championship-in-michigan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/43558\/","title":{"rendered":"Report: LIV Golf canceling Team Championship in Michigan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated July 28, 2026, 1:14 p.m. ET<\/p>\n<ul class=\"gnt_sh\">\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">LIV Golf is expected to cancel its Team Championship in Michigan, marking the second event cancellation this season.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">The league&#8217;s future is uncertain after Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Public Investment Fund pulled funding and the Asian Tour ended its alliance.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">Only two events remain on the 2026 schedule, with reports suggesting a reduced 10-event schedule if the league continues.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_sh_li\">Several players are reportedly exploring other options as their contracts near expiration, casting further doubt on the league&#8217;s viability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Questions have surrounded whether the <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/07\/23\/uncertainty-surrounds-liv-golf-season-finale\/91020155007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LIV Golf Team Championship<\/a> would ever happen since <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/06\/10\/liv-golf-event-schedule-in-jeopardy-ceo\/90489507007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">CEO Scott O&#8217;Neil dodged a question<\/a> on whether the remaining four events of the year would happen. Last week, those rumors grew even louder, if not confirmed, when <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/07\/28\/report-liv-golf-canceling-team-championship-michigan\/91077841007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cleeks GC captain Martin Kaymer said<\/a> there was only a 5 percent chance the league would end up at The Cardinal at Saint John\u2019s in Plymouth, Michigan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">On Wednesday, LIV Golf is expected to officially announce it is canceling the team championship in Michigan, the second LIV event to be canceled this season. <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/flushingitgolf\/status\/2082134883283964074?s=20\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|z|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Flushing It Golf<\/a> was first to report when LIV was expected to announce the cancellation, and LIV officials have not responded to Golfweek&#8217;s request for comment as of publishing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Earlier this year, <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/04\/28\/liv-golf-officially-postpones-new-orleans-tournament\/89844061007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">LIV officials postponed the tournament in New Orleans<\/a>, which was set for last month, though no make-up date is expected. In April, Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Public Investment Fund pulled funding for the league, and O&#8217;Neil and Co. have been working to try to find new revenue streams for the league to continue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">If it does, it likely won&#8217;t look anything like it does now. O&#8217;Neil reportedly told players the schedule will be 10 events instead of 14. <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/07\/25\/lynch-liv-golf-cash-ran-out-asian-tour-followed\/91049793007\/\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Golfweek&#8217;s Eamon Lynch reported that tournaments in Hong Kong and Singapore<\/a> will likely depart LIV\u2019s existing schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Last week, the league&#8217;s best player, Jon Rahm, <a href=\"http:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/liv\/2026\/07\/21\/liv-golf-future-jon-rahm-optimistic\/90992649007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">expressed he was optimistic about the league&#8217;s future<\/a> but wouldn&#8217;t comment on why. With the pending cancellation of LIV Golf Michigan, Bryson DeChambeau has two more LIV events before his contract is up.
