DeChambeau protested a penalty ruled against him after the second round of The Open late into the evening, in a move McIlroy described as \u201cperformative\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>The rivalry between DeChambeau and McIlroy goes way back. DeChambeau is the face of LIV Golf, which McIlroy has had public battles with in the past, and after DeChambeau beat McIlroy at the 2024 US Open, there has always been tension between the pair. <\/p>\n<p>But in response to McIlroy\u2019s comments, Scheffler said he\u2019s not a fan of \u201cpersonal jabs\u201d, taking the side of DeChambeau in this instance. The world number one added that he doesn\u2019t think rivalries are a big thing in golf because players aren\u2019t competing one on one. \u201cMy biggest rivalry week in and week out is the golf course,\u201d said Scheffler. <\/p>\n<p>But this is a take that Dan Rapaport vehemently disagrees with. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2210125399-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland shakes hands with Bryson DeChambeau of the United States on the 18th hole during the final round of the 2025 Masters\" class=\"wp-image-2597035\" \/>Photo by Richard Heathcote\/Getty ImagesDan Rapaport disagrees with Scottie Scheffler\u2019s opinion on Rory McIlroy vs Bryson DeChambeau<\/p>\n<p>Scheffler said, \u201cI don\u2019t think that rivalry is a big thing in golf,\u201d but looking back through golfing history, Rapaport completely disagrees with Scheffler\u2019s take. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Dan on Golf, he mentioned some of the rivalries which have been great for the sport. <\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cI would love for rivalry to be a bigger thing in golf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s awesome that Rory comes up there and just says like, I really don\u2019t care for this guy. I remember, I mean it never really quite blossomed into it, but Tiger and Sergio Garcia obviously did not like each other at all, and they say, Phil and Tiger. There was rivalry there. <\/p>\n<p>MORE SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER STORIES<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I wish rivalry was a little bit more part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Right now, the game is lacking a real edge. Beyond DeChambeau and McIlroy, players seem to get along nicely, and we\u2019re lacking some big personalities to rock the apple cart a little. <\/p>\n<p>Even the villains of the past like Patrick Reed haven\u2019t been on center stage recently, so they\u2019ve avoided big controversies that have riled players up in the past.
