Albert Duffus, 74, of Forbeshill has organised the Mark Duffus Memorial Golf event at Forres Golf Course since 2014, helping to raise a total of \u00a3125,000 – distributed to local projects and national charities.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt’s the last public memorial I’ll been doing,\u201d he said, \u201cthough our family’s going to continue playing every year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe proceeds have gone to various charities including Poppyscotland, Erskine, National Trust for Scotland and clubs Forres Thistle and Mechanics.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year, we donated \u00a32000 to Forres Golf Course because they need a new water tank.\u201d<\/p>\n
Forty one year-old former Queens Own Highlander, Mark, lost his life in 2013 during an attack in Afghanistan when a truck packed with explosives drove into a vehicle bay in Kabul while he was working for a security firm.<\/p>\n
Supplying close protection, Mark was one of seven who died in a battle with the attackers.<\/p>\n
Many of the Duffus family served with the Queens Own Highlanders, including Albert.<\/p>\n

A total of 76 golfers from as far away as Carlisle and Wick took part in this year\u2019s memorial on July 3 in ideal conditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe atmosphere was fantastic,\u201d said Albert. \u201cEveryone is always in good form over the memorial weekend. A lot of them are ex-forces like me, who understand that Mark wouldn\u2019t want us moping about.\u201d<\/p>\n
As well as the game itself, there was a fundraising raffle, scratch card and auction of equipment donated by organisations including Celtic Football Club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had donations from people who couldn’t attend too,\u201d added Albert. \u201cThey were all very much appreciated.\u201d<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s recipients of the memorial proceeds were the Leanchopil Trust, Forres Thistle, young golfer Matty Wilson, Poppyscotland, Erskine and Forres Golf Club.<\/p>\n
Albert paid tribute to Forres Golf Course for staging the memorial every year, including providing a buffet for participants.<\/p>\n
He finished: \u201cThank you to everyone who has attended and contributed in any way. Mark will never be forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n
