{"id":44299,"date":"2026-07-30T05:53:11","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T05:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/44299\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T05:53:11","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T05:53:11","slug":"minjee-lee-vows-major-bounce-back-australian-golf-digest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/44299\/","title":{"rendered":"Minjee Lee vows major bounce-back \u2013 Australian Golf Digest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>              July 30th, 2026                <\/p>\n<p>\n                By Australian Golf Digest              <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[Photo: Courtesy Ladies European Tour]<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three-time major winner Minjee Lee has vowed to wipe the slate clean and recapture some Lytham magic from eight years ago at this week\u2019s AIG Women\u2019s Open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lee is one of nine Australians and two Kiwis in action at Royal Lytham and St Annes for the final major championship of the golf year, New Zealander Amelia Garvey to lead the Australasian contingent out from 3:41pm AEST Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not willing to share the nature of what caused her withdrawal from last week\u2019s ISPS HANDA Women\u2019s Scottish Open when she was 23-over through 30 holes, Lee has consulted with coach Ritchie Smith to keep alive her hopes of completing the career Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.australiangolfdigest.com.au\/nelly-korda-has-chance-to-win-third-major-and-career-slam-at-2026-british\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">With 5 majors packed tightly, \u2018on edge\u2019 Nelly Korda ready to tackle next chance at career slam<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve had a few days to recover a little bit, so I\u2019ve taken it easy the first few days and then yesterday a little bit more practise. But other than that, it\u2019s been OK,\u201d said Lee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI probably talk to Ritchie, my coach the most. Most of the time it\u2019s a little thing in my swing or a little thing here and there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGolf is a funny game. It is humbling me at the moment, but there are many different people and different experiences I can think back or reflect to and talk to about stuff like this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI try and take the positives out of each week, even if I have a difficult week, and try and build up something from that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have been on tour a long time and I do know how to bounce back and try and work things out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is a new week and I\u2019m just going to approach it like I do all the other weeks, how I start the week anyways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key to a swift response will be Lee\u2019s memories of this championship in 2018 when she matched the lowest round in an AIG Women\u2019s Open at Lytham \u2013 7-under 65 at \u2013 to lead after Round 1, albeit in vastly different conditions to what is expected this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI just remember that day I played really early in the morning and there was not a breath of wind,\u201d Lee recalled, going on to finish 10th that week, the second of five top 10s at the AIG Women\u2019s Open to date.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was playing totally different when I came back and played the first couple times. I don\u2019t even remember playing a wind like this so just really different conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cObviously great memories from that first round and good vibes. But I think this year I think it\u2019s going to play a little bit differently. I mean, with the wind, it\u2019s a totally different beast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.australiangolfdigest.com.au\/new-perspective-aussie-golf-star-open-to-turnaround\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018New perspective\u2019: Aussie golf star open to turnaround<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Making her 13th consecutive start in the championship, the AIG Women\u2019s Open is one of two women\u2019s majors Lee needs to complete the career Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 30-year-old West Australian says the nature of links golf makes any expectations on winning virtually impossible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cObviously in terms of AIG and British and just the conditions that you play, you just don\u2019t know what you\u2019re going to get,\u201d said Lee, who tees off in Round 1 at 5:20pm AEST.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s just hard to get that far ahead of yourself, maybe let yourself get that far ahead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI just find it\u2019s just really difficult sometimes with the winds and just the conditions that you\u2019re given. It\u2019s totally different to every other major.
