(AP PHOTO)<\/p>\n<p>Ryu recovered from a shaky start to her second round to post a two-under \u200c69 and reach seven under for the tournament at a sun-baked Royal Lytham on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The world No.3 \u200cRyu, bidding for her third successive major triumph after winning the PGA Championship and this month\u2019s Evian Championship, \u200cbogeyed her third hole and double-bogeyed the fifth to slip back.<\/p>\n<p>But the South Korean responded superbly and was flawless after that with five birdies, including one on the 18th that gave her the outright lead heading into the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Ryu leads by a stroke from Japan\u2019s Shiho Kuwaki who went out early and carded \u200ca solid one-under \u200c70 to be \u2060the long-time clubhouse leader on a day marked by extremely slow \u200bplay with the afternoon groups taking well over five hours.<\/p>\n<p>Defending champion Miyu Yamashita was packing her bags for home after a quadruple bogey at the par-four 18th meant she missed the cut with a second-round 77.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight leader Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand went round in nine more shots than her stunning first-round 64 as a \u2060two-over 73 left her tied with American Yealimi Noh, two \u200cshots \u200bback.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t hit close to the pins as I did yesterday. Maybe the pin positions were kind of \u200bhard,\u201d she \u200csaid by way of explanation for her relative struggle. \u201cJust going to have to be patient at the \u200bweekend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>World No.1 Nelly Korda, like Ryu bidding for a third major this season, hit back after an opening-round 73 with a six-birdie 68 putting her in the mix for the \u200bweekend \u200bat one under along with 2024 champion \u200bLydia Ko of New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1785537199_988_.jpeg\" alt=\"Lottie Woad\"\/>England\u2019s Lottie Woad vents her frustration during the second round of the  Women\u2019s British Open. (AP PHOTO)<\/p>\n<p>England\u2019s world No.5 Lottie \u200cWoad maintained her steady progress with a level-par 71 although a bogey at the 18th, only her third in two rounds, where she drove into a deep pot bunker, left her five shots adrift of Ryu.<\/p>\n<p>Woad is trying to become the first home winner since Georgia Hall, also at Lytham, in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>She was \u200bin a group of eight players packed together on two-under, including compatriot Charley Hull.<\/p>\n<p>Of the other Australians, Minjee Lee went round in one shot fewer than on Thursday but is seven over. Karis Davidson had a marginally better second day but finished a shot further back and Kelsey Bennett was nine over.<\/p>\n<p>Grace Kim\u2019s woes intensified.
