{"id":46044,"date":"2026-08-04T02:38:44","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T02:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/46044\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T02:38:44","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T02:38:44","slug":"winter-parks-wp9-golf-course-reopens-after-100000-repair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/golf\/46044\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Park\u2019s WP9 Golf Course reopens after $100,000 repair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">WINTER PARK, Fla. \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/cityofwinterpark.org\/departments\/parks-recreation\/golf-courses\/winter-park-golf-course\/\" style=\"color: #0066cc; text-decoration: none;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Winter Park 9 <\/a>Golf Course is back open after an unexpected setback forced crews to close many of its holes for months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">An accidental maintenance mistake in April killed large sections of grass almost instantly, leaving the city with a $100,000 repair bill and months of restoration before golfers could return to the historic course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a course with plenty of Central Florida history,\u201d Winter Park Parks and Recreation Director Jason Seeley said \u2014 and one that nearly faced an even bigger challenge this spring.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">Crews quickly realized the damage was too severe for the turf to recover, Seeley said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">\u201cBy the time we got a handle on it, it was too, too far gone. The grass on the greens had already deteriorated,\u201d Seeley said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">The $100,000 cost included rebuilding several damaged greens, some of which had already been scheduled for repairs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">During the work, WP9 was forced to limit golf play for months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">Now that the course has fully reopened, golfers say the improvements were worth the wait.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">Golfer Michael Mangsen, who has been a member for five years, praised the condition of the course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">\u201cRight now, it\u2019s fantastic. And it\u2019s always been good, you know, except for that one little stint. It\u2019s always been good,\u201d Mangsen said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">The city-owned course, which opened in 1914, has remained a favorite for generations because of its central location and its challenging nine-hole layout.\u00a0Golf has been played on the site for more than 110 years, making it one of oldest golf courses in Central Florida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0.5rem 0; line-height: 1.6;\">\u201cWell, I love the fact that it\u2019s nine holes walking.
