Rory McIlroy ended his week at The Open Championship in disappointing fashion.<\/p>\n

McIlroy hasn\u2019t had his best stuff this week at The Open.<\/p>\n

That is no surprise really given his lack of competitive action over the past two months.<\/p>\n

McIlroy<\/a> has putted terribly this week at The Open Championship<\/a> and his long game certainly wasn\u2019t on point either.<\/p>\n

Rory McIlroy was too far behind heading into the final round of The Open<\/a>, and he seemed to be totally unmotivated on Sunday at Royal Birkdale.<\/p>\n

And his golf during day four at The Open was incredibly scrappy at times.<\/p>\n

He ended up shooting a round of one-over par 71 and is currently sitting in a tie for 40th.<\/p>\n

Rory McIlroy admits he\u2019s lost motivation for the PGA Tour<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old addressed the media after his final round at Royal Birkdale on Sunday.<\/p>\n

McIlroy confirmed that he will not be playing before the FedEx St. Jude Championship when asked if he will compete in Memphis.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n

The Northern Irishman was then asked if he lacks motivation right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that\u2019s fair,\u201c he replied.<\/p>\n

So what\u2019s the reason for his lack of enthusiasm right now?<\/p>\n

\u201cNot really. I think it just sort of ebbs and flows. There\u2019s been years where I\u2019ve given it maybe more of my attention and years that I haven\u2019t. Yeah, I guess I\u2019m just at a stage that I have other things that I prioritise.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, the PGA TOUR is in a lot of flux at the minute with a lot of their schedule and structure and everything like that. So I think the change where it doesn\u2019t matter where you are in the top 30 going into the TOUR Championship, it\u2019s like I just need to be in the top 30 going in there to have a chance to win a FedExCup. So why would I care about the first two?<\/p>\n

\u201cI sort of came to that decision last year, and I\u2019m just sort of doing the same thing.\u201c<\/p>\n

Finally, McIlroy responded when asked whether he has had it confirmed to him that he will retain his PGA Tour card next year, despite having not played in the required minimum of 15 events.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201c he replied.<\/p>\n

McIlroy was asked by reporters what he has planned for the rest of 2027 now that the major season is finished.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, look, this season feels very similar to last season. Obviously won the first major of the year, fell off a little bit after that, but still any time you win a major in a year, you have to be pleased about that,\u201c he replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, like I haven\u2019t really took the time to enjoy that or celebrate that. Poppy\u2019s got another four weeks off school until she goes back, sort of middle to end of August, so just going to enjoy the summer holidays with her and Erica. Yeah, that\u2019s what I\u2019m looking forward to the most.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen obviously I\u2019ll get back to playing and still in a decent position, I guess, in both title races. As long as I\u2019m in the top 30 going into the TOUR Championship, and then I\u2019m in a decent spot still in the Race to Dubai. So try to play hard until the end of the season and then try to win one or both of those.\u201c<\/p>\n
