He handed the league a significant boost earlier in the year when he snubbed the chance to follow Brooks Koepka and return to the PGA Tour.

Who do you think will WIN the Wyndham Championship? ⛳

Young, Matsuyama, Koivun, Thomas… or someone else? 🏌️

But LIV seems to be in big trouble right now. There has been no clarification over whether the league has been able to secure the investment that will keep them in business beyond this season.

The New York Post recently reported that Scott O’Neil was growing confident that he was closing in on securing the $250 million investment he was looking for.

But that will seemingly not solve all of LIV’s issues.

Cam Smith speaks about the prospect of returning to the PGA Tour if LIV Golf folds

The account Flushing It reported that seven players had already decided that they will leave LIV at the end of the season, regardless of whether O’Neil seals the fresh investment.

It does appear Cam Smith will not be one of those pushing to leave. Speaking to the media ahead of LIV New York, the Australian spoke about whether he had planned an exit strategy.

“I’m a positive guy, so I’ve made no effort to go seek anything else,” he said.

“I don’t really understand what is going to happen. I think it’s all up in the air. I know that the LIV team is working hard to get us to play next year and working hard for us. They do a lot of hard work behind the scenes.

“I want it to work, really, to be honest. It’s great fun out here. The team that we’ve got, I feel like we make each other better, better people and better golfers as well. Yeah, I’d hate to see it go away. We’ll see what happens.

“Like I said before, we’ve got a player meeting this afternoon. I’m sure we’ll get some more info. But at the moment we’re preparing to keep playing and keep the team alive.”

He was then asked whether he would be interested in returning to the PGA Tour.

“I mean, if it was the only option, I think that’s where everyone would want to be for sure, 100 percent. It would go back to old times,” he said.

Whether Cam Smith currently expects LIV Golf’s Team Championship to take place

While the future may look a little brighter for LIV, there continues to be doubts over whether they will play all of their remaining events this season.

Several players believe the Team Championship in Michigan will be cancelled, with Martin Kaymer suggesting that there is just a five per cent chance of the event going ahead.

Interestingly, Smith suggested that there is still optimism about the season finale.

“We’ve been told to prepare as though it’s going ahead. So we’re expecting it to happen. I’m really unsure, but we had a great year there last year in Detroit, and we’re hoping we get back there. It’s a great golf course, a great venue, and the crowds really turned up as well. Yeah, would be disappointed if it wasn’t,” he said.

“Like I said, we’re expecting to play. Hopefully we get there. I know we’ve got a player meeting this afternoon, so I’m sure we’ll hear a little bit more, but as it stands right now, all I can comment on is we’re expecting to play.”

It is good news for LIV that Smith seems committed to staying with the league. No country has done a better job of embracing LIV than Australia, and Smith is Ripper’s captain.

But there are clearly a lot of hurdles still to clear before the 2022 Open Championship winner is teeing it up in a LIV event in 2027.

Join Our Newsletter

Receive exclusive football transfer news and updates twice a week to your mailbox

Follow us on Google Discover Cam Smith has suggested that he would look to return to the PGA…

[2
1160,44,81
post-46230","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","tag-cam-smith","tag-golf","tag-liv-golf
["GET
